Model A Ford oil change?
Summer is here and I just broke the antique car out. The difference is this year I don't have my father around to guide me to prepping it for parades and Sunday driving. RIP Dad!
I know the oil needs to be changed but I recall him saying every few times you need to drop the oil pan and clean it out as there is no oil filter.
First of all I need to know what type of oil to use, I went to a few web sites and there is conflicting answers.
Second, Do I need to drop the oil pan? I want to start over everything fresh.
If I do drop it is there a gasket that I have to replace?
I'm sorry if there is a lot of questions, I just want to make sure the Model A is around to leave to my sons when I'm gone.
Thanks for all your help!
3 AnswersFord1 decade agoHas anyone used Aspen Dental for a tooth extraction?
My tooth broke on Saturday (of course never on a Monday morning) and my dentist is on vacation for the next 2 weeks. I don't have dental insurance and was just going to pay cash. It is the molar right behind the "A" tooth or fang tooth. I was in a nearby town and saw a sign for Aspen Dental and decided to have a look. I made an appointment for tomorrow to have them take a look and extract it if possible. I don't think a root canal is justified on this tooth.
Do they do a good job? How expensive are they? And would you use them again? (assuming you already did) Thanks!!!
1 AnswerDental1 decade agoMy mother is ignoring my family and her friends?
My background 37 years old, married for 8 years, have twin stepsons (13 years old) a 2 year old and another due in a few weeks. My father passed away in 2005 from cancer and my mother was understandably upset. She kept to herself for a few years and occasionally went on a few coffee dates but ALWAYS made sure she had time for her friends and family. She met a guy over 2 years ago and they have been dating exclusively since they met. When they first got together she would come over once a week (as we live in the same town 10 minutes away) call almost daily to see how us and the kids were etc.. Over time she has faded away from coming over, calling or doing anything with her grand kids. She has always said family first, no matter what. It is now April and she hasn't seen the kids since Christmas! I have called her about it and she makes up excuses like "I know I didn't like having my mother come over all the time" or "I hated when my mother in law would come over" (while talking to my wife)
I received an email from a life long friend of hers last week asking if she was still alive as he had been trying to get hold of her about his wife who was in the hospital for over a month by calling, writing emails etc.. I told him that he wasn't the only one trying to get hold of her. Today I was at my God parents house doing some work on their house and we saw my mother and her boyfriend walk by. My truck was in the driveway, the garage was open and they strolled by like they didn't know who we were. My God parents were her and my fathers best friends, they got my parents together 40 years ago. Obviously they were hurt as well, I explained that it has been like this since they got together 2 years ago. My Godmother called and left a message to have her call but doesn't expect a return call.
I am getting upset and embarrassed by her actions. I have tried to talk to her about it and she seems unfazed. Does anyone know what else I can do? I don't want to lose my mother but it seems I already have. A lot of her friends are my clients and I feel awkward trying to apologize for her actions.
2 AnswersFamily1 decade agoShould I tell my mother I've had enough?
My background. I'm 37, married to my wife of almost 8 years. We have 2 boys (my stepsons) and we have a 2 year old daughter together (today is her birthday) plus we have another on the way in June. My father passed away in 2005 and my mother was understandably upset for a long time. I tried to get her to go out and have a good time, find a man, go on dates etc. She went on a date with the guy who actually built my parents house and they hit it off. I was very happy for her. They have been together for almost 2 years. At first I was a little jealous of him as any son would be, seeing a guy make moves his mother. I got over it and him and I get along great, we have hunted together, I help him out around his house he helped me build my shed, etc...
They have both ALWAYS said, "Family first" no matter what. Like I said before today is my daughters 2nd birthday. She didn't call my house to wish her a happy birthday or the boys who's birthday was last week. I know she didn't forget as she commented on my facebook status about my daughter being 2 already.
This weekend we have a "family" get together planned, my wife's family is coming up from out of state to celebrate. My mother, who lives in the same town told me that she can do any time but Saturday night as it is "date night" When I asked her about possibly cancelling it just for this week, she acted like I was asking her to grow a second head. I told her I thought family first meant family. My question is what should I say to her? Should I just ignore it and go on my merry way. I just don't want my kids to grow up not knowing who their grandmother is that lives in the same small town. I also don't want them to get their hopes up to be let down again by her.
6 AnswersFamily1 decade agoTrading my car for a truck?
I'm thinking about trading my 1999 Toyota Camry that has 104k miles on it. It looks great with no rust or mechanical problems for a 99 Ranger XL with 150K miles on it 4x4, looks to be in good shape. Owned by an older man. He wants to trade because his son is going to college and needs a car that is good on gas mileage. I have been advertising on craigslist for a few weeks now about selling it or trading for a 4x4 truck. Just wanted people opinions on the trucks, are they good? Reliable? Gas mileage ok? Any known problems with them?
4 AnswersBuying & Selling1 decade agoI have two jobs that both offered me a position?
I was laid off about 7 months ago and have been looking for work ever since with no luck. I applied online to a bunch of places and never heard anything back, low and behold last week I got a few calls back. I interviewed almost everyday last week. The 1st place had pay that was less then I was making on unemployment and the second was OK but not great so I took the job and am supposed to start on Monday. I got home from that interview and had a call from another place. I went to the interview with little hope but came out with a great interview, I was called back in today and they offered me a position with better pay and really good benefits. My question is I want to let the other company know that I don't want to take the position but want to do it politely without them being upset as they bent over backwards to get me a little more money but not enough. What would you say to them?
3 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoPolice officers rights?
A friend and I were having a discussion about police officers today. The question came up as to criminals running away after they are either stopped or questioned. The question is after reasonable questioning and knowledge the criminal bolts do the police officers have the right to shoot the person after they have been told to stop in an allotted amount of time? For example an officer stops a man and finds he is wanted for rape. Once the person has been identified as the criminal and they run and police give chase and say stop lets say 5 times and it doesn't look like they are going to should the officer be allowed to shoot the person to either slow them down or stop them? Please let me know and also let me know if you are a democrat or republican. This pertains to our whole question. Thanks
5 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police1 decade agomy neighbors son is always lying?
I live in a very small town with very little neighbors. We moved in about 6 years ago. I have twin sons that are always outside and all around good kids. About 4 years ago we had new neighbors move in down the road. They have a son who is very close to the same age as my boys (him 12 them 11). Naturally they all became friends, went to school together and are in the same grade. I am good friends with his parents, very nice people always lending a hand etc.
Lately I have noticed that their son has been telling half truths and some very far out lies. My sons are not very gullible but they do know when he is lying. I have mentioned to his parents and they say they have talked to him about it and they know he does it but he still continues. Today my sons were on Facebook and the boy sent them an instant message asking what they were doing. They both explained that we are going shopping today then wrestling practice then they are having a friend over. He then called here and asked them the same thing, like it never happened. He then got back on Facebook and told the kids that his girlfriend was over and she has spent the night. They said yeah right and told him they don't believe a word he says anymore. My question is I want to stay good with my neighbors but in the same token I want my kids not to get his habits. What should I do or say to them to let them know but remain friends with them even though our sons may not be.
5 AnswersFriends1 decade agoI was fired and now I have an unemployment hearing?
I worked for a well know Cable company in Vermont for over 3 years. A few weeks ago I was called in on my day off and questioned about something I had nothing to do with. I was done with the meeting and was put on paid suspension "Until they could figure it out" I was called back in the next business day and was let go for something totally different. I know in my heart of hearts that I was let go because I was hurt on the job and it was going to be a reoccurring injury. My boss was after me ever since I was hurt for everything.
Anyways to get to my point, I filed for unemployment the very next day after I was let go. I did all the paperwork, made all the phone calls etc. I have been calling in for 2 weeks every Sunday to answer questions and do whatever they ask of me. I got a letter in the mail stating that I have been declined until further review because I was terminated. They told me I have to call a certain number on Wednesday at 9am to have a eligibility for unemployment hearing over the phone. Has anyone ever done this before? What should I expect?
3 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoMy cousin wants to borrow my car?
My cousin lost her job and voluntary repossessed her old car, leaving her with no way to get around. She called me and asked if she could borrow my car so she could look for a job, run errands etc. I let her borrow it a few weeks ago. I asked for it back a week later as I needed to do a few things and my wife was out of town with our other car.
She brought it back, handed me the keys and left, later that day I went to go do my errands and realized the gas tank was on empty. I thought she probably forgot because I needed it back asap. No big deal.
The next week she asked to borrow it again, I told her no problem, I mentioned the gas and she apologized and said it wouldn't happen again. The other day I needed it back to do some errands again, I called her the day before as I knew she was going out of town with her boyfriend. She told me she would be up before noon. I was at work so I wasn't there to "inspect" the fuel gage. I got home and checked it before I walked in the house and again it was E!. I called her out this time, she said she would bring some money up today. She didn't get home from her trip until late so she wrote me an email stating that she would be up tomorrow and asked if she could borrow the car again.
I'm wondering if I should let her borrow it again? She obviously has money to go on camping trips, out to the bar a couple nights a week and random clothes shopping sprees.
What do you guys think?
6 AnswersPersonal Finance1 decade agoI got hurt at work and I'm worried?
I work for a major cable company where I climb ladders and telephone poles daily. In February I tore my rota-tor cuff while setting up my ladder in an icy situation, I got back to work a month later.
This past week I was on my ladder and it slipped out from under me and I fell about 20 feet and hurt my back, the ambulance came the whole deal.
My boss is very upset that I got hurt again and has been acting weird around me and not telling me everything about the situation. I'm worried that when I get back to full duty in a few days or so that she will fire me because I'm a liability.
I may not be the absolute best tech in the office as far as numbers go but every customer likes me and all of the other techs seem to like me as well. My boss and I don't always get along and I'm worried that she will use this as an excuse to send me packing. Is there something I can do to protect myself from being fired?
1 AnswerLaw & Legal1 decade agoMy Boss accused me for calling out on fathers day?
Yesterday I went to a family reunion and had a little too much to eat. I came home at 830 pm and wasn't feeling really well. I tried to tough it out over night but was up most of the night sick and couldn't leave the bathroom. I called my boss at 6am this morning to let her know I wasn't feeling well and wouldn't be in. She said "this isn't because of Fathers day is it??!!?" I told her "No, I feel like crap and my kids aren't even home today" She said "OH whatever, I'll talk to you about it Monday, Enjoy your day!" then hung up on me. My question is, I feel wrongfully accused from her. Do I go in tomorrow and tell her that I don't appreciate her accusing me of calling out for fathers day or just let it go?
16 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoWith the economy the way it is do I have an advantage to buying a used car from a dealership?
I'm looking at a 2008 Ford Explorer. The asking price is 19,900. I'm offering 16,000 for it.
With the economy the way it is, I'm sure sales are slipping. I know that this particular vehicle has been on the dealership lot for a number of months and I'm sure they would like to move it.
I wrote them a quick email last week with that offer and they called me right up and asked when I could come down to "make a crazy deal" do you think I'M crazy for offering such a low deal or am I going to be wasting my time?
6 AnswersBuying & Selling1 decade agoMy son has developed a weird noise?
My 10 y/o son has started making a really odd noise that is driving me crazy. My wife thinks it is a nervous tick. He has nothing to be nervous about. He does this about every 30 seconds its like a beep, its hard to explain but it is irritating!!
I have told my wife we need to bring him to a psychiatrist but she thinks if we just ignore it, it will go away. He had it a few months ago and yes, it did go away but it came back.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I am going nuts!
6 AnswersOther - Diseases1 decade agoWhat would you do or say to my contractor?
I have finally bought my house, signed all the contracts, and made my first mortgage payment. I decided to take a loan on top of my mortgage to hire a contractor to build a garage, new porches and finish my basement. I chose someone that had a bunch of references, lived near me and gave me the best price. I thought I did a good job interviewing him, we sat down to lunch and discussed what I wanted to do. After all the contracts were signed he got to work, first he did the garage, it came out just like he said 28'X32' with 3 doors, etc... Then on to the porches, at first they were good, after about 3 days I realized they never put sonotubes in just 4x4 on the ground because it was sinking. My bank came to give him a check for the garage and the porches part....she took one look and told him he had to put sonotubes under the porch before he could get paid. He was pissed! Of course he was starting on my basement the same day as she came up. He left for the day I guess to calm down. I understood...
Anyways after he calmed down the next day he came back to start demolition on the basement, I asked him a question about something we discussed and he said no hes not doing it because it wasnt in the contract, it was a new set of stairs. I called my mother because she was with us when we discussed what we wanted to do down in the basement. She came over and he went off on her then me, he told her that she has nothing to do with it, this is Tim's (my name) deal not yours, he then looked at me and said to keep "mommy" out of it. I stepped away before I decked him. I had to go back to work anyways.
Today I came home for lunch break and I noticed that my old stairs were on the driveway. I figured that he decided to put the new ones in to save face as I am paying him $40,000 total. I realized that they were on lunch break as well and decided to wait until they got back so I could thank him for doing the stairs. I walked up to him as he was getting out of his truck and started to talk to him, I said Ohh cool you are doing the stairs? Th......He interupts me and said I HAD TO MOVE THEM BECAUSE THEY WERE IN MY WAY! I WILL PUT NEW ONES IN BUT YOU ARE LUCKY BECAUSE I AM READY TO SAY **** YOUR MOM, **** YOU AND **** THIS HOUSE! Then he put his hand up to say dont talk to me anymore. I was livid, I had to go back to work so I said calmly I see how it is and walked away.
Now after about 6 hours I'm still pissed and want to fire him but we have a binding contract and he has already started the work. I want him to finish what he started but I dont want him talking crap to my family or doing shotty work in my house. What would you say to clear the air? I want to be able to be around MY house when hes here.
3 AnswersEtiquette1 decade agoI flushed my well and it ran out of water
I tried to flush my well water system today. I poured a water and bleach combination into my well. I ran all my faucets for about 10 minutes until I smelled bleach then let the system sit for about 5 hours. I then ran all the faucets very slowly for about 1 hour. I was outside then noticed my garden hose wasn't spitting water out. I went inside and the same was happening with my faucets. I immediately shut everything off thinking that I had drained my well. I have waited for almost 2 hours now and still nothing. The water pressure gage on the holding tank shows about 25 psi (normally it is right in that neighborhood) I have noticed the pump circuit is making a buzzing noise for 2 seconds then shutting off. Did I screw something up or should I wait to see until the morning?
4 AnswersMaintenance & Repairs1 decade agoWell water not passing water test.
I am buying the house I have been living in for the last 4 years. We had a home inspection a few weeks ago. The water test came back with high levels of coliform. The inspector told me how to fix this was to adjust the screen in my well. My question is how do I adjust it and if it doesn't work how can we make it pass? I was told that i was to use bleach in my well they would detect that and if I was to boil the water they could tell. I have asked around and everyone that I know either has town water or they haven't had a water test done in years. If we don't pass this next test we cant get the house. Please help
6 AnswersDo It Yourself (DIY)1 decade agoMy wife is jealous of my sister?
My wife and I lost a late term preganacy in January, we were both very upset about this obviously. About 2 months later my sister annouced that she was preganant. I was elated and happy for her. I noticed my wife was upset which was understandable but it gets worse..
My sister lives in NC and we in VT. She and her husband came up last week to celebrate my Grandmothers 80th birthday. We had the whole family there, I was having a good time when I noticed my wife "hiding out" with our twin boys. She would intentionally avoid my sister and make snide faces at her when she wasnt looking. When my sister had finally had enough she went to my wife and tried to talk to her to cut the tension. My wife told my sister to "back off before I say something you dont want to hear" I overheard this and asked my wife to leave and go back to our house.
My sister was very upset and so wasnt the rest of the family. My mother left in tears. I love my wife and sister and I'm torn. What would you do?
8 AnswersFamily1 decade agoWierd situation with my "best" friend?
My friend of over 20 years has basically forgotten me. Him and I were really tight all the way through high school and after graduation we both went our separate ways (military, college etc.) after a few years we found eachother and were back to old times. He had to go to Iraq for the war. He met a girl online that he dated back in 6th grade, he promised her the he would take care of her and HER 4 KIDS when he got home. He came back and announced a week later that they were getting married. I was taken back and thought to myself he will see the light and get over her. The wedding went well, we all had a good time. They came back from thier honeymoon and poof he was gone. It has been 6 months and he hasnt called or anything. All of a sudden out of the blue he called my wife needing my help. I am very upset with him and want an explanation as to why he hasnt called. What would you recommend to do. I'm so mad I dont want to call him back. It seems like he is only calling for my help.
24 AnswersFriends1 decade agoHP DV6408 laptop wireless will not stay connected?
I bought this computer in August last year and had no problems at all with the wireless internet. Lately I have been alot slower, the internet connection will be slow or non exsistant. I use the computer just for email and occasional websurfing..THATS IT. I called HP last week and they had me do a few settings of the TCP/IP and it seemed to work. About 20 minutes after hanging up it started doing it again.
I know the internet is fine...I work for the company that provides it and the levels are perfect.
Has anyone else had this problem? What did you do to fix it? I'm thinking about going to Best Buy tomorrow and dropping it off to Geek Squad and have them look at it. Will it be free? It came with a 1 year warrantee from HP. I bought it at BB.
