My son has developed a weird noise?
My 10 y/o son has started making a really odd noise that is driving me crazy. My wife thinks it is a nervous tick. He has nothing to be nervous about. He does this about every 30 seconds its like a beep, its hard to explain but it is irritating!!
I have told my wife we need to bring him to a psychiatrist but she thinks if we just ignore it, it will go away. He had it a few months ago and yes, it did go away but it came back.
Does anyone have any ideas on what to do? I am going nuts!

when you say that he has nothing to be nervous about you never know, kids are very perceptive on what's going on around the house. he might see you or your wife worried about something and well he's feeding off of the problem. maybe if you think back when he did it before was there something going on in your house that could have trigger him to do that. i know when my kids feel like there is something wrong and believe me it could be anything they bite their nails.

It could be tourette's syndrome, but I'm not a medical professional..but it does sound in some ways like it. I know a young boy who had it. He did something similar. But yeah, maybe bring him to a psychiatrist or even regular dr to find out if it continues. Maybe it's just a habit of his..and it stopped for a bit, but returned. I'd get a professional to investigate the problem further though..to rule out any serious physical or mental health problems as medicine can help if it is indeed a medical condition.

Have you ask him about it? If he tells you that he can't help making the noise then maybe he should see a doctor. Might be Tourettes syndrome.
Tourette tics usually begin between the ages of 5 to 7, and peak around age 10. During the course of adolescence and by age 18 they might begin to diminish. Some patients, however, will have their tics for life and in other cases (<10%), the Tourette Syndrome tic symptoms can become even more severe in adulthood.

well...what you should do is give him in a firm tone of voice that it's not appropriate to make that kind of noise. Usually hand out a punishment(not too severe) to make him understand that it isn't alright. In due time he'll link the two together and will eventually stop. Do not react in an angry tone of voice for it'll just amuse him. Just be firm and consistent with the punishment. if it's 5 mins time out it's 5 mins time out no more no less and throughout the course of the period do not change the punish for it might confuse him.

Does he smell funny? If so, you might want to change his diet.
Those beeps are probably farts.
