I have a ? abot a repair on a fiberglass boat.?

The boat is a 1985 Larson Senza approx. 22ft. It has a S.B. chevy 350 I/O. the problem we came across is the sides of the boat, on either side of the engine, you can push them in. At first I thought the stringers broke lose. but upon close inspection we realized the stringers don't run that high. Also the sides of the boat, about 4ft. from the stern has come unbonded from the top shell of the boat. So I have two ?'s Is the boat junk? Or How can I repair this so it"s safe and water worthy?

Well not junk but in terms of production boats of that era...they aint great.

So here's the deal...your deck seam has separated and this has allowed water to enter the laminate on the side of the hull. The inner skin has separated from the outer skin.

Rebond the deck seam with 3M 5200 and if there is a flange...re-bolt or re-rivet it to mechanically mate the deck and hull again.

You can probably stop there...however it would be best to get around the engine with an angle grinder with a zip wheel on it. Mark a square or round area that flexes the most on both sides. Now cut this inner laminate out...be careful not to cut through the outer laminate. Pop the cut panels off and dry out the area or remove the wet core manually. Use plywood to replace the core and rebed the inner laminate...use West System epoxy for all this.to dress up the inner repair you can run fiberglass strips around all your cuts. You're done...the choice is yours whether to paint the rapair or not.

in case you have purely "dings and chips" on your boat, you're able to in trouble-free terms % a gelcoat fix kit. Gelcoat is the outdoors coating on the fiberglass of a ship and is a lot greater water resistant than the fiberglass itself. at an identical time as often a splendor subject, moisture can by the years get into the fiberglass and reason subject concerns that are stressful to repair later. in case you bypass to maximum any boat save (West Marine etc.), you're able to have the means to discover gelcoat fix kits. bear in strategies that gelcoat is strictly a ending product. For deeper holes, you're able to might desire to accomplish a little glass filling and fix first. There are additionally 2-section epoxy faring compounds attainable to fill and tender small holes.

Dave M's nailed it. Careful while using that "zip wheel". Taper your repaired core and the fiberglass repair with a 6 to 12 to 1 taper for strength using a mini grinder. Wear a respirator and protect your skin.
