why won't my washing machine's cold water shut off?

The machine is off yet it keeps filling itself with water, seems to affect just the cold water.

Try unplugging it, if it still fills, the solenoid valve is stuck open. If it stops, it could still be the solenoid or the control panel.

shut the cold water valve off. disconnect it from the back of the washing machine. now shut the hot water valve off and disconnect the hot water hose from the back of the machine. step 3 attach the cold water hose to the hot water valve, open the cold water valve that you shut off earlier, and try to start small load of clothes using just the cold water. i wash with nothing but cold water for over 40 years. now if the water shuts off and the washer starts to wash you then will know that it's not the hose that regulates the amount of water that you want in the machine, and it would be my thought that the cold water solenoid is bad. if it doesn't start and just keeps filling then i would think it's the small plastic hose that's attached to the device that regulates the water or maybe the water regulator device itself.

the hoses are attached to the solenoids at the rear of the machine and are not at all hard to replace. make sure you unplug the machine before trying to replace any of those electrical parts.

also try working the water level switch back and forth about three or four times just to make sure it's not stuck somehow.

do that first. it's kind of like finding out what's wrong by deduction.

    good luck to ya

Both cold and hot water lines have separate solenoid valves. When they are not energized, they should be in the off position.

If the cold water is running, this means that the cold water solenoid valve is not totally shut off. It can be that dirt has fouled the valve and resulted in an incomplete valve closure.

If you are the adventuresome type, trace down the solenoid valve, remove it and see if it can be cleaned, if a rubber washer or o ring can be replaced, etc. If it cannot be rebuilt, replacement may be in order.

There are extremely regularly electrically managed valves interior the again that open on the ideal time to positioned water in. It sounds to me like the chilly one is sticking open. i have by no ability bought one so are literally not in a position to assist you with that, are literally not in a position to be extraordinarily extreme.

it sounds like the plastic tube that controls the shut-off is clogged. have a repair person look at it.
