This is a direct command from Jesus's followers.I have

known many in my day,but I have never heard one even

mention Jesus to me.Most just drink beer and curse God.

People who have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, can't stop talking about Him because they love Him. Those who have a commitment to a religion, instead of Him, don't have much of a reason to talk about Him, they exalt their religion and its practices. This happens with all religions.

If someone is trying to convince you of their religion instead of Jesus Himself, beware.

    Jesus saves. Religion condemns.

As a Catholic, I find the concept of "drive-by witnessing" to be ineffective and bordering on rude. I've seen the panicked look in people's eyes when they've been buttonholed by a fundamentalist blathering on about "Are YEW saved? WHUT church do you go to? Yougottabesavedbytheblud 'a JESUS!!"

Does this mean that I never talk about Jesus or His perfect sacrifice for our sins? Not at all. I'm very open about my faith, and if someone tells me about a problem or a need, I ask their permission to put their name on my prayer list. If they want prayer right then and there, no problem. I've prayed in hospitals, bus stations, the local Wal-Mart, and a lot of other very public places with other people watching and listening.

I try to live out my beliefs in everything I do because if my life and my actions aren't a witness for Christ, then my words are meaningless. That's why this quote attributed to St. Francis of Assisi is one of my favorites:

"Preach the Gospel at all times. Use words if necessary."

    Edit:

So all Catholics are "Bible illiterates," eh?

Gee, I wonder who it was that has been reading and studying the Bible since she was 9? (Which, incidentally, was 46 years ago.)

I sure thought it was me who's taken courses, studied on her own, and memorized large chunks of the Bible simply by reading it so much for so long. But surely nobody here would generalize or make a bigoted remark about Catholics, so I guess it wasn't me after all.

    Or something like that.*

    Hello,

    1) Well to quote the Great Cardinal Richelieu.

If God didn't want man to enjoy wine then why did he make it so good?

It goes for beer too. All things, including rich foods should be taken in moderation as the Bible says.

Jesus' 3 year ministry occcured during the First century during the reign of Tiberius Caesar Augustus and the Proparaetorship of Pontius Pilate.

There, I have mentioned Jesus to you.

    Cheers,

    Michael Kelly

When the Holy Spirit revealed to his followers the gifts that they should share with others, some were given the gift of prophecy, some the gift of healing, some the gift of teaching, some the calling to be priests, and others many other gifts. One gift given to all of His followers was the calling to evangelize for the Church. We are all called to share the good news of Jesus Christ. It is up to us all to bring new followers to the Lord and help bring home those who have left the Catholic faith.

No human being can convert anyone to Christ. This is the work of the Holy Spirit. Therefore,

for our evangelization to be fruitful, we must have the Holy Spirit in us.

    1. Daily Prayer

Having an intimate relationship with Christ, his Father, and the Holy Spirit, through daily

prayer is a prerequisite for evangelization. A good relationship with Christ’s mother, Mary, is

also advisable. By committing to a daily routine of prayer and meditation we seek the

guidance of the Holy Trinity and receive the graces to do God’s will. Missionary work is

    God’s work, not our own.

    2. Right Attitude

To be a good evangelist also requires respect for the dignity of the human person that we are

attempting to evangelize—to respect that person’s free will to choose what he or she believes.

We should not argue with a person who disagrees with Catholic teaching. We should calmly

state what the Church teaches, offer resources for more information, and tell the person that

we love him or her. If a person we are attempting to evangelize is a Christian of another

denomination, we should respect the unity of our common baptism and remind the person that

we are all on the same team, Christ’s team.

    3. Good Example

Living what the Church teaches is the most important witness for the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

As St. Francis of Assisi once said, “Spread the gospel, sometimes use words.” We need to

examine our own lives first. Are we obedient to the ten commandments and the teachings of

the Church? If our marriage is not sacramental, if we practice birth control, abuse alcohol, or

miss Mass on Sundays, etc., then we should get our own house in order before trying to

evangelize anyone. Frequent reception of the sacraments, especially Confession and

Eucharist, helps us live holy lives and be effective witnesses.

    4. Faithfulness to Church Teachings

Make sure that you are faithful to the teachings of the Pope and the Magesterium of the

Catholic Church. If you are going to represent the Catholic Church and recruit others to join

the Church, be faithful to its teachings.

    5. Holy Zeal and Other Gifts of the Spirit

Lukewarm faith won’t attract anyone. In fact, with lukewarm faith, we won’t even save

ourselves. Jesus said in Revelation 3:16-17: “I would that thou wert cold or hot. But because

thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I am about to vomit thee out of my mouth.”

Only in this way will the Holy Spirit dwell with us in fullness

and only in this way will we have holy zeal and the other gifts of the Spirit to be an effective

witness for Christ. The gifts of the Holy Spirit are wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude,

knowledge, piety, and fear of the Lord.

I have no idea where "your day" has been spent, slick, but that comment about drinking beer and cursing God betrays your anti-Catholic prejudice -- and takes away any credibility whatsoever that this is a genuine question on your part.

Catholics have been witnessing for Jesus for centuries, and continue to do so. We just don't tend to buttonhole complete strangers and inquire as to whether they are "saved", or preach on street corners.

Not that you really wanted to know.

If you love me, feed my sheep.

Care for the hungry, naked, sick, imprisoned, oppressed, and broken-hearted.

And that is what the Catholic Church has done throughout history.

In every country and in every culture, the Church has become a witness to the faith by becoming the hands and feet of Our Lord.

Wherever there is suffering, the Church is there. Wherever there is injustice, the Church is there. Wherever there is poverty, the Church is there.

If you love me, feed my sheep.

And the Catholic Church answers, yes Lord, send us.

When Jesus says, go ye therefore into all nations, she goes.

When Jesus says, feed my sheep, she feeds them.

When Jesus says, you must be the servant of all, she becomes a servant to all.

When Jesus says, no greater love has any man than to lay his life down, she lays down her life, again and again.

She is a witness to the world – and has been for more than two thousand years.

You must not know many Catholics then. Every Catholic I know, including myself talks about Jesus constantly. But, we are not going to get into peoples faces and shove Him down their throats. You can't turn anyone to Christ by doing that. I suggest that you shut your mouth and open your ears when you are around a Catholic, maybe you'll learn something.

So what is it about Jesus that you would like to know...........

  • Really, sounds more like a statement from your local pulpit to me!. We I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all worlds; God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God; begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who, for us men and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the virgin Mary, and was made man; and was crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate; He suffered and was buried; and the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures; and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; and He shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of Life; who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe one holy catholic and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.

And we state this every mass and we pray to God, We have Novenas 'look it up' for our Lord. As for drinking we drink the Blood of Christ each Mass and yes we do drink beer some of us So what. As for cursing God NEVER have I cursed God and NEVER will. It never ceases to amaze me how you fundies are so obssessed with Us Catholics!!!!.

We do witness for Him. We just do not force our beliefs down the throats of non-believers, in the same way in which fundamentalist & Evangelical Protestants do.
