Can dogs get sick or die from eating....?

Hi, I know this is probably a dumb question but, for halloween I'm making some decorations... One is painted milk bone dog biscuits (white) and strung on twine... However, it would be a shame to just paint them using temper paint and throw them out... I have a dog and I would like to be able to give her the treats once the party is over...

I was thinking of coating them with a thin layer of white chocolate.. Since white chocolate really isn't chocolate but, does it contain the same "poison" as real chocolate? I wasn't sure... Would it be same to coat the treats in white chocolate and give them to the dog as a treat every now and then.... I have a large breed dog... Rottweiler

It is the caffeine in chocolate that is the culprit for making dogs sick.

White chocolate should be fine, but I'll agree with the other poster that suggested carob.

I do not know how many treats you are going to do, but Milk Bones or other bones such as that are fairly cheap. It might be better to just paint the bones with the paint (tempera paint is rather cheap!), toss them out and give the dog some bones you bought specifically for him. After you figure the cost of the white chocolate or the carob, a bag of bones (if not several bags of bones!) will probably be cheaper!

White Chocolate has little real chocolate in it. Levels of caffiene and theobrime are low. Large amounts of white chocolate would need to be ingested in order to cause toxic signs from chocolate.

A 20 pound dog would need to digest at least 55 pounds of White Chocolate to cause nervous system signs.

A 10 pound cat would need to digest 27 pounds.

So, in answer to your question... it is fine to feed him the bones once in a while.

Depending on the size of your dog, he should be fine. There isn't a lot of chocolate in brownies, so he should be alright. If he is a small breed, telephoning the vet might be a good idea. Other than that, just keep an eye on him and give him some pepto bismol if he vomits or has diarrhea. If things get too bad, go to the vet. Vomiting anymore than 3x in an hour requires a trip to the vet ASAP. He should be alright, because as I said, there is little chocolate in brownies. It is mostly flour and sugar. I wouldn't feed him too much, maybe half of the amount of his normal dog food. He needs to get the junk out of his system.

White chocolate is a confection of sugar, cocoa butter, and milk solids. The melting point of cocoa butter is high enough to keep white chocolate solid at room temperature, yet low enough to allow white chocolate to melt in the mouth[citation needed]. White chocolate thus has a texture similar to that of milk chocolate.

white chocolate is not the same as chocolate. It does not contain the same ingredients. or even close to the same.

    add:

oops forgot to answer the question at hand. Large or small breed, it could be too rich for their stomachs to handle and digest. Meaning it could cause anything from vomiting, diarrhea, and siezure activity. So as for my honest opinion...stick to just milky bones

I fed my rotties a piece of cake for their bdays and they had diarrhea for 5 days

Why not use a food grade food coloring instead. Even though white chocolate is not really chocolate it might still make your dog sick, it is just not worth trying out,

I would only give him the treat occasionally, but that sounds fine to me.

White chocolate isn't chocolate at all. Totally different

See if it will work to paint them with like flower and water or something. If not maybe a bit of icing although sugar at all is not good for dogs.
