When using a treadmill...?

Is it better to walk at a slower pace to warm up, start going faster until going at a brisk pace, then slow down near the end

OR

Warm up, speed up to a brisk pace, slow down a little bit, speed up, slow down, speed up, slow down.

I'm just wondering because I'm able to do a longer time if I do the 2nd option, but I want to get the most out of my workouts in terms of weight loss.

On the rare occasions I use a treadmill, I will stretch my legs first, then jump on and start with a brisk walk for 1-2 mins to get my heart rate up, then move into a steady jog and continue for as long as I possibly can. When I'm ready to stop I'll slow down and do a slow walk for a few minutes to cool down.

Ultimately it depends on what you feel works best for you, but to lose weight, running/jogging at a steady pace for a length of time may work best. Remember that as long as you're sweating, you're losing weight!

    Don't forget to stay hydrated!

start at a slow walk and when you feel comfortable move the pace up a little, repeat this until you are running!

start off slow and when you feel ok about that go a little faster - keep doing this until your running, eventually it will become more easy and you will feel good about yourself
