How can our vote count with the electoral college?
Should we work to repeal the electoral college and go 100% for the popular vote. Because I don't understand how third party candidates have a chance even if they got all the votes?

The electoral college will never be repealed because it requires an amendment to the constitution and to amend the constitution, requires ratification by 38 states; that will never happen because the electoral college preserves a voice for the less populated states and there are more of those states than there are of the ones that might see an advantage in the amendment. Criticism of the electoral college process usually comes from people who have the mistaken idea that the United States is a pure democracy; it is not. The United States is a republic. A republic is a representative government in which we elect officials to represent us as citizens. The electoral college is a perfect mirror of our republic.

If you're a Democrat in Florida or Texas; or a Republican in NY or California, you realize that in states with large populations the electoral system causes many more of you to have an ineffective vote. In states with small populations, not as many people feel like their votes "don't count".
I am for getting rid of the electoral vote, but only if all the states do it. I don't expect it to happen, but if Obama wins the electoral vote and McCain the popular, then both sides will feel what it's like and maybe there will be an outcry. I doubt it though; people are too passive.

No, smaller less populous states deserve a say in elections. The electoral college helps level the playing field. It forces candidates to consider the nations issues not just where most of the people live. Your vote determines how the delegates will vote so your vote does count.

I'm not sure what third parties have to do with it. Third parties can recieve (and historically have received) electoral votes.
The main reason we haven't switched to the popular vote is that it takes even more clout away from small state voters and many people fear that a national popular vote would do even more to make sure that the concerns and needs of less populous states would be largely ignored.

"Real" Democracy includes the possibility of a faction discovering that they can vote themselves the public treasury and making off with it thus effectively killing the goose ... oops!
To prevent this, the Founding Fathers installed the Electoral College system, and to be honest it has served us well. The major change that I would recommend, is the elimination of political parties, and also the huge contributions by corporations to said parties.
Abolish Corporate person-hood!
WHY do profit centered Corporations give $$$! to political campaigns if not to get results for their business?
Publicly traded corporations are NOT in the business of handing out charity, they are investing in the candidates they believe will serve their cause.
Many facets of the system are out-of-line, but the Electoral College is really not one of them.

I don't think most of us know enough about it. I think once we get a new Pres. we will get things in order. We have to get the most important things taken care of first which means life or death situations such as the military & health care...then jobs, economy then environment, then probably last but maybe in a few years we should look at this issue. It will get done cause we are all aware of things & our country will be re-energized like a person who recovers from a life threatening illness.

Our votes don't count nationally. That's why the electoral college needs to be abolished. Plenty of other nations have a popular vote system in place.
