02 Ford focus, I need to fix hole in AC hose + drier / Accumulator?

I have an old leak in my AC hose. If the refrigerant is filled up, it would completely vent in a few hours I suppose. The mechanic said he could see it bubbling it out when he put a tad in. Regardless I have not had AC for a few years, but figured I could fix this myself. If I purchase the right part I believe i found it for 135-175 dollars (hose and drier/accumlator). Do I need to replace the drier/accumulator? After I replace the parts, i will need to go to an ac shop put on a vacuum, suck out the water air vapor and charge with freon right? Venting shouldnt be an issue b/c I have had no refrigerant for 3 years?

I wouldn't suggest doing this yourself if you are not educated in ac systems. But if you want to try, since there is no refrigerant in the system, take the line off, replace with a new line with new o rings and put some oil on the o rings before installing. Yes anytime you replace a part on the system you should change the reciever dryer. Same applies, be sure to put the proper amount of oil before installing that. Then yes, you need to take it to a professional to vacuum the system down for 20-30 minutes before charging the system and putting in ac dye.

sounds like your know what you are doing. Yes everytime you take apart the AC system and open it to air for more than a few minutes it is recommended to replace the drier/accumlator.
