Question about when "it's your time" to die. ?

I have a friend who's daughter killed herself recently. (They are Catholic.) In trying to console my friend, another friend told her that it was just her (the daughter's) time to go. In her case, she just chose the way she died. She went on to explain that if the daughter hadn't killed herself, she would have still died, but in some other way (like a car accident or something).

I'm a Christian, so I don't believe in this, but I did find it rather interesting. Has anyone heard of this, what do you think of it, and what is your religious beliefs, if any? Just curious about other people's thoughts on this. Thanks.

(Christian) I dunno the exact situation. But if I had killed myself: I know it wouldn't have been god's timing. God's timing is best, because (unlike us) he knows and sees past our feelings and sight.

If you have a choice between life and death: always choose life.

I stayed because I knew I was part of God's influence the earth.

Personally, I disagree with her. Suicide is a bit different. While I am sure that God knew she was going to kill herself, I don't know that she would have died that day anyways even if she hadn't done it by her own hand. Either way we will never know.

I'm so sorry for your friend's loss, and yours too. I think that's one of the most devastating things a parent can go through.

Who ever said that is so wrong. The bible says it is appointed to man once to die. it also says that you can shorten your life or extend it by actions.

I think it was just a case of someone trying to make a person feel good over a suicide. My opinion is you don't hav to be brutally honest but a lie is never acceptable.

There are other ways to comfort then to spread it thick like that.

I am Christian, but not Catholic. I know that Catholics believe that if you kill yourself, you are doomed to hell. I personally believe that only God knows what will happen to a person who committed suicide. In cases of mental illness, which is most often the case, I don't see how they could be held accountable for that action, but I'm not God.

I really don't have any set beliefs about suicide. But I did hear one opinion that made sense to me. When a person commits suicide they receive counseling in the afterlife and usually decide to do it all over again. Kind of a "no easy way out" thing. The lessons were not learned and the soul really wants to do that.

You'd have to believe in reincarnation to accept that. But to me, it's comforting to imagine such a loving creator, instead of an abusive one that condemns. I imagine, too, that it's not a judgment EVER. Consciousness just is...period. And love is the ONLY power in the universe that can progress us to a higher place.

She has chosen her destiny .She probably would still be around if she didn't make the wrong choice. Also, no one can pray he to heaven. Psalm 49:7 " None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him:"

Job 14:5 says: "Since his [Man's] days are determined, the number of his months are with You; You have appointed his limits, so that he cannot pass."

God seems to think that "our days are numbered."
