My Chihuahua is a little under a year old and has been sad like lately, he also has been losing weight (i can see his back bone) and his hair is sticking up on his back. What could be the problem?

Have you tried changing the dog's food? If he still isn't eating, he's definitely sick.

ONLY YOUR VET CAN DIAGNOSE HIM. These are just possibilities on what it could be.

It sounds a lot like ehrlichiosis, but it could also be a variety of other things. Distemper... lyme disease... autoimmune hemolyptic anemia... or maybe even just seperation anxiety.

Please take him to the vet. He isn't well.

Starvation is a good guess. Since one presumes you do feed him, it's time to get him to a vet! ASAP, as small dogs are particularly vulnerable to the organ failure that starvation poses. Other possibilities include parasites, cancer, dehydration, kidney or liver failure...there's too many possibilities to enumerate.

BTW, sudden weight loss in a dog is always a bad sign and should always be taken seriously. You need to get your dog to a vet, and in a big hurry. Take him to an emergency facility if you have to, but get him cared for today!

This happened tpo my puppy and plz do not hesitate to take your baby to a vet IMMEDIATELY. They can get parasites that grow so large in the stomach they eat all the food your dog eats before it passes to the intestines to be absorbed. It sounds like your dog is literally starving to death, Malnourishment causes hair to be come brittle ( sticks up) and fall out. Please right back and let us know you followed through/

Check with your local vet--sounds like it could be parasitical in nature which you can get too.For sure though, have the vet do bloodwork along with a fecal test.Your answer then will be answered.

He sounds sick. Could be something simple as worms. Worms can kill your dog. Have him evaluated by a vet. Doesn't sound like he has long left, if you don't get him some help.
