I believe that dogs should be kept indoors as a part of the family. The only exception would be working dogs. I disagree with chaining dogs outside, even working dogs. I have trained all of my dogs and have picked up a few things over the years. I used to prescribe to the old ways of training, using choke collars and the like. I now believe that positive training is a better way and makes a much better relationship between you and your dog. Using the dogs brain instead of using force, pain and intimidation to get results. I also find it irresponsible to suggest use of dangerous training equipment (pinch collars) to novice pet owners. Just because training dogs with force and intimidation has been done for ages, doesn't make it the best choice. I wish the old school trainers on here had an open mind to positive methods of training.

  • My brand new ac unit is freezing up. AC techs are puzzled. I need help!?

I recently bought a brand new inside coil, outside unit too, squirrel cage and blower. It still continues to freeze up at least once per week. Temperatures have been in the 100's, and it worked as well as it's working now that the temps are in the low 90's. Tech's that installed it are puzzled and have pretty much walked away, leaving me with a problem. $3,500 and I'm afraid I will have to start over with someone else. Any ideas? It's not dirty coil - that is new. It's not dirty filter - Been changed and freezes with no filter in place. Outside is new and freon level is where it's supposed to be per the tech's. We are out of ideas and I'm out of patience.

  • Urgent Notice: Potential Danger of Dog Hair.....?

In a press release today, the National Institute of Health has announced the discovery of a potentially dangerous substance in the hair of dogs. This substance, called "amobacter caninii" has been linked with the following symptoms in females: Reluctance to cook, clean or do housework, a reluctance to wear make-up, good clothes or high heels heels. Reluctance to spend money on home or car repairs until after 'Baby' has new collars, leashes, beds, treats, food, blankets or toys.

"Amobacter caninii" usually results in long hours away from home and exhaustion which may lead to a loss of physical contact with other humans (especially husbands and boyfriends). "Amobacter caninii" is thought to be addictive, driving the need for additional sources - this may lead to a "pack mentality" or like the potato chip commercial, "you can't have just one". Beware! If you come in contact with a female human infected by this substance, be prepared to talk about dogs for hours.

Surgeon General's Warning: Dogs are expensive, addictive, and may impair the ability to use common sense.

  • Does your dog sleep in your bed with you?

I am not looking for anyone to say if it's right or wrong. Just would like to take a poll on how many do and how many don't. My belief is most dog lovers do allow the dogs to sleep in their beds. I have been sleeping with a dog in my bed since I was a young child. I am now 46 years old.

  • Tennis balls for dogs?

I have heard that tennis balls are bad for dogs teeth. Has anyone else heard this? I was told it was the felt on the ball that wore down the dogs teeth and it wasn't good for them to have the tennis ball. What have you heard about using tennis balls for dog toys? Should I let my dog play with them? Or not?

  • Hard decision about euthanasia?

I have 2 miniature schnauzers I am very concerned about, ages 15 years and 12 years old. The 15 year old (Dixie) is going deaf and blind, losing weight and seems to be having some dementia, as she has started eating poop and pee. She is almost incontinent, but with frequent trips outside we can keep the accidents in the house to a minimum. The 12 year old (Dandy) has lost bowel control and randomly drops poop anywhere, I don't think she is cognizant of it. She is also having difficulty using her back legs due to arthritis. They pretty much don't have quality of life, but have life. I am torn on how long I should keep them going or should I set them free. I guess I am asking your opinions, what would you do with the same situations? I know the decision will have to be made eventually, but not sure if I'm ready to make that decision.

  • I got a warning ticket for speeding! I wasn't speeding!?

I'm pretty ticked off right now. Just got home from town. On the way a Texas Highway Patrol Officer pulled me over for speeding. He said I was doing 79 in a 70. He is so wrong! I put my cruise control on 70 on the highway and do not speed - ever. If my car gets to 72 that would be as far as it might go down hill! It's now just his word against mine, but he's wrong and he doesn't believe he is. There were a lot of vehicles on the road, and so someone could have possibly been going 79, but it wasn't me. I was passing some semi trucks that were doing 65, but I did not exceed 70. What can I do or should I just blow it off! I just had to blow off some steam. He did just give me a warning, but I'm just as mad as if he had given me a ticket and that would be expensive. I don't know how in good conscience he could do this! I always thought the cops were the good guys, but this sure puts a tarnish on my opinion of them. So should I do anything? Write his bosses? Or just let it go?

  • How to stop dog play biting?

My grown daughter adopted a 4 month old mix breed puppy that is possibly cross of doberman and labrador. He is about 1 year old now. He acts like he was taken from his litter too soon as he has no bite inhibition. He jumps and bites (snap snap snap) really quick like. He's just playing but can hurt someone. Would like some advice on positive methods for breaking this habit. He came to my house this past summer and played with my Rottweiler, but since he played too rough I had to break it up and keep them separated. I don't want my Rottweiler to learn his style of play. My daughter has finally had enough and is asking for ways to stop this. He does it randomly and she doesn't know how to react to it to make it stop. He is never aggressive. He is just one big playful and ill mannered puppy. Any ideas?

  • Help with Hot Spots! ?

Rottweiler, 2 years old. Inside dog. No fleas or ticks. Healthy in every way except: She dog suffers from hot spots. She has been to the vet. Vet shaved the areas effected. Has taken second round of anti-biotics. Using hydrocortizone cream and anti-bacterial ointment on the spots. Washing spots with hibiclens. All of this per directions from my vet. The originals spots are healing up. Though we are getting new ones in different areas. How can I get this to stop? Every few days I find another new spot. She eats Innova EVO. It seems to be seasonal as she did the same thing last year, but this year seems worse.

  • Need help with Seagate FreeAgent External Harddrive?

I have a Seagate FreeAgent External Hard Drive. It was working and I have important pictures loaded on it and need to get to them. About 3 days ago my daughter's dog ran through the cables from the laptop to the external hard drive, pulling the USB out of the laptop without it being stopped properly. The hard drive itself may have gotten a bit of a shake from the movement of the cables, but did not fall off the table. Now my computer does not read the drive, I have tried it on two other computers as well. I have replaced the USB cable and used an OHM meter to make sure the power was working properly. All of that checks out. When I put my ear to the drive it makes intermittent buzzing sound. Buzz then none, then buzz again. Like it's possibly trying to do something, but not doing it. I don't know what it's supposed to sound like when it's working properly so the noise it's making may be normal....I just don't know. I would like some ideas to get the drive going or to recover the information off of it without spending a grand or more. Thanks for any help, I'm really desparate and will try calling Seagate next week, but thought I would try everything else first.
