Does your dog sleep in your bed with you?

I am not looking for anyone to say if it's right or wrong. Just would like to take a poll on how many do and how many don't. My belief is most dog lovers do allow the dogs to sleep in their beds. I have been sleeping with a dog in my bed since I was a young child. I am now 46 years old.

Update:

All really great answers. I also understand the hair and drool issues. I don't think anyone is right or wrong. We all do what we think is best for our dogs. Having a 100lb Rottweiler in my bed with my husband and I, can be a bit crowded. But my husband supports it. Heck, when I met him he had a poodle who he allowed to sleep in his bed.

Well, the dog I have now is only 4.5lb. My husband is a larger man and I am scared he will roll over on her. I put her bed on my night table (it has sides so she won't fall out) but usually in the night she comes on in. I let her stay for an hour or so then put her back. When my husband is out of town however she always sleeps with me...hogs his side. When I have dogs I train and their family allows them in bed and my husband is out of town...we all pile in. I have had as many as 4 in with me. Some labs, poodles, schnauzers, boxers, great pyrenees, yorkies...you name it I've had them. There is nothing like waking up in the middle of the night with a dog nose to nose with his eyes looking at you and then that tongue coming out to give you a kiss "just because". I enjoyed your question!

My dogs do that to. I found that if I put an extra dog blanket in the kennel, they will use that as cover instead of the dog bed. It's not a problem, some dogs like to be covered at at night time. As for the bed wetting, it would be my opinion only that the breeder did not train him for paper or pads fast enough and he got into the habit of wetting his bedding. No, likely he won't grow out of wetting his "living room" bed, so take it away for a while, or put some paper down near it. He's only 6 months old, so you can break the habit of the bed wetting fairly easily. He sounds cute as a button.

I have only one rule: If the dog growls at you for moving it, etc. It will never be allowed on the bed again.

But...yes, my shih tzu sleeps with us. I also have a western king, and my husband makes sure that she has alot of room, so I am kind of at the edge of the bed. LOL

I also have a 121 lb. rottweiler and no he doesn't sleep on the bed with us. Hubby does have allergies, so I just don't want all of that hair, and the drool in the sheets. If he was allowed up there, I would be sleeping on the floor. He would startle too easily if we were to touch him while he was in a deep sleep.

our pug was always slept in our beds,

Our rottweiler for the first several years was not allowed down the hall (destruction issues) and she was only allowed in on my parents bed after dad left for work unless it was the weekend then she could get up when they were awake but not up. now that she is passed her destruction issues she now can sleep on my bed. but most of the time she wants to sleep under my bed (before with her other collar it would get caught on the metal then she would freak and drag the bed around.) but not any more. so for the most part she doesn't want to sleep in the bed but she can.

Absolutely I sleep with my dog! All 3 of them. I too have been sleeping with a dog since I was a child and now I'm 50 and I still do it. My kids have grown up and they do it to. A real lover will or has slept with their dog. I have a boston terrier and 2 bull dogs, their snoring has become music to my ears. LoL

Great Question, this should be interesting.

Our dog, a 75 lb. golden retriever, does sleep in our bed. She starts out at the bottom of the bed, but after we fall asleep, she sneaks up between us, so that her head is between our pillows. If one of us gets up to use the bathroom, she gets right on our pillow, as if to say, "You really don't want to use this, do you?" She definitely believes that she is one of us and I believe we have had a big roll in causing her to feel this way. As parents of 6 we always seemed to have someone in our bed so our dogs slept on the floor. But the kids are big now, and I think we have mellowed.

My mom's and sister's dogs do, but mine sleeps in her crate right next to my bed... she sheds, drools and moves around too much... not to mention that there is not nearly enough room for her!

and during the day, when she's allowed on the bed, she still chooses her crate or her dog bed first. :)

No, because I'm currently single and don't know if any future mate would want a big dog curled up in bed with them. My dog stays on the dog bed on the floor at night.

BUT, during the day I cover the bed with a blanket and he gets to sleep on the bed to his heart's content. He loves the pillow area the best - probably because it smells like the humans most :)

Our Jack Russell Terrier died several years ago from cancer. Her name was Molly, she was 7 years old, and her healthy weight was right around 9 pounds, so she was the same size as a medium sized cat. And yes, at night she slept in bed with me and my husband. She had her own sleeping habits. She'd either sleep under the covers and curl up next to my chest (imagine me sleeping on my side, and her curled up right there with me), or she'd sleep under the covers between me and my husband, or she'd sleep on top of the covers between my husband's feet. She was a sweetheart!!!

Of my four dogs, only one sleeps at the foot of my bed. She's a shih tzu and doesn't take up much room. My golden retriever doesn't sleep in my bed, but sometimes in the morning, I'll invite him up to cuddle before I get up and ready for the day.
