My brand new ac unit is freezing up. AC techs are puzzled. I need help!?
I recently bought a brand new inside coil, outside unit too, squirrel cage and blower. It still continues to freeze up at least once per week. Temperatures have been in the 100's, and it worked as well as it's working now that the temps are in the low 90's. Tech's that installed it are puzzled and have pretty much walked away, leaving me with a problem. $3,500 and I'm afraid I will have to start over with someone else. Any ideas? It's not dirty coil - that is new. It's not dirty filter - Been changed and freezes with no filter in place. Outside is new and freon level is where it's supposed to be per the tech's. We are out of ideas and I'm out of patience.

Why is it you split up that you bought a new indoor coil, squirrel cage, and blower? it would have been cheaper just to replace the entire indoor air handler. Have these guys been just changing out components trying to find what's wrong? I will agree you need a new company as you definitely have some hacks doing this. Those "techs" should be able to determine pretty quickly as to why it is freezing. That company has to make this right or you can get a return on your money. If this is truelly a new unit and you are having the same problem with the new unit as you were with the old unit I would think maybe you have a ductwork issue that they never found? that of course would be fairly obvious to me if I put my gauges on the system so the techs should have caught that. Another possibility could be a restriction in the line set. The copper tubing running from the outside unit to the indoor coil could have a kink in it restricting the freon flow causing it to slowly freeze up. These are just some ideas. Another idea could be that they put a unit in that is too big for the house. They may have had it on hand and trying to unload it. If the unit was to large the ductwork would not be big enough causing it to freeze up sometimes. I could see this happening since you said they changed the blower and squirrel cage. I think they were trying to boost the airflow doing that. As to what they did who knows. You really need a tech from a different company on site to figure out what went wrong.

Here the thing that I dont get new inside coil, Squirrel cage and blower and out side unit? So did you keep the existing air handler and try and upgrade it to match the CFM required of too large of a outside unit? That quess #1
The other issue could be that the TXV is bad or the bulb placement in in the incorrect position.
It should be pretty evident whats causing this. You need to call a second company out and have them check this. Sounds to me like they are chucking parts at it as they cant figure it out.

Check and make sure there is nothing blocking your return air vents, like a couch or bookshelf or something that has been recently moved....run the ac without the blower door in place (might have to tape the door switch closed) to ensure the return air is not the problem. The techs might have installed a new coil but with the wrong orifice inside it. Get a second opinion. if the techs were reputable and professional it's got to be something small they overlooked.

If the evaporator coil is freezing the most likely cause is that the ac unit is low on refrigerant. Most home ac units run on the flooded system. Call another company and explain to them what your problem is. Also take the advice of the other answer and call the manufacture. Regards, Dale

Looks like it could be one of many things.
1.Evap motor not working
2. Dirty Air Filter
3. Dirty Evap Coils
4. Low Refrigerant Charge
5. Blocked air return
See the below article, hope it helps

Need to know the pressures/temps superheat/sub-cooling, model number, house sq foot. We're guessing, otherwise.
