Is it less expensive to mail books when you move via Media Mail?

I read somewhere that it's less expensive to mail books when you move than to have them moved by the moving company. Does anyone know if that's true or not?

Thank you!

Generally, above a certain weight and postal zone distance, USPS Media Mail is cheaper for books than UPS, FedEx, etc. However, if you're moving household goods with a regular mover, it may be more convenient to keep everything together.

Check the rules if you go with USPS.

Media Mail is used for books, film, manuscripts, printed music, printed test materials, sound recordings, play scripts, printed educational charts, loose-leaf pages and binders consisting of medical information, videotapes, and computer-recorded media like CDs and diskettes.

Mark each package "Media Mail" in the postage area.

If you are going with a moving company, most go by the entire weight of all the contents. They go to a trucking weight scale.

Media Mail is a cheaper way to mail.

Gather up all your books and media, weigh it, and got to usps.com and put in the weight. See what it comes out to.

calculate the postage based upon the size, weight and destination of the box. From there, determine whether it's cheaper to ship via USPS
