Gift Decisions in Professional Boxing?

In the history of professional boxing can think of a decision that a boxer has gotten that was so outrageous that you wonder what the people who scored the fight were smoking! I have a lot of fights that were judged badly but I can pick one.

2007 Joel Casamayor W12 over Jose Santa Cruz

Any other professional fights that were judged badly?

Good question. The list of gift decisions is as long as boxing is old. The ones that I saw and stand out for me in no order are:

Chavez D12 Whitaker. ''Sweet Pea'' boxed the ears off JC Superstar and the judges who must have feared for their life made it a draw. It was ridiculous.

George Foreman W12 Axel Shultz. The unknown Shultz made Foreman look old and REALLY slow. Myself, the commentaters of the fight and 99% of the world felt Shultz won but Foreman was awarded a horrible dec.

Shannon Briggs W12 George Foreman. In Foreman's last fight Briggs ran for 12 rounds and hardly landed a punch. He was heaving from exhaustion at the end from running and was awarded the dec.

Manny Pacquiao D12 Juan Manual Marquez. U could say both of their fights went to JMM but this one was a doozy.

Casamayor vs. Santa Cruz was so insane I wanted to kick my t.v. lol. The judges went out of their way in that one.

I could spend all day typing what I feel was the worst decisions but those four are still fresh in my mind.

Sugar Ray Leonard over Marvin Hagler. Leonard pitty-patetd Hagler most of the night and the judges were very impressed by Leonard's speed because he had been retired for a few years. One of the judges was even quoted after the fight as saying "he should be called Marvelous Sugar ray Leonard!" Hagler got screwed again. He had gotten screwed the first time he fought for the title against Vito Antefuermo. Vito was a bloody mess, but the judges ruled it a draw.

Michael Spinks over Larry Holmes. Just as in the Leonard-Hagler scenario, this was a fight where a golden boy from the 76 Olympics who became very popular was given a decision over a less glamorous long time champion. If Holmes had gotten that decision, his record would have stood at 49-0, tying the great Rocky Marciano. There are some in boxing who never liked Holmes and did not want him to break that record.

Fernando Vargas received a gift from the judges when he fought Winky Wright.

Oh... and how can we forget about Oscar De La Hoya's gift over Felix Trinidad.

Rico Hoye over Montell Griffin. Griffin displayed very beautiful defense and countering in that fight. Hoye couldn't hit Griffin with nuclear bomb in that fight, yet the judges felt the more you miss than the more you're causing damage.

And how bout 75% of those who earned a victory over Glen Johnson.

Good question sir. The following is a list of what many consider to be gift decisions:

Joe Louis vs Jersey Joe Walcott 1

Michael Spinks vs Larry Holmes 1&2

    George Foreman vs Shannon Briggs

Oscar De La Hoya vs Felix Trinidad

    Floyd Patterson vs Jimmy Ellis

Julio Cesar Chavez vs Pernell Whitaker

Lennox Lewis vs Evander Holyfield 1 (Draw?)

Jose Luis Ramirez vs Pernell Whitaker

Oscar De La Hoya vs Shane Mosely

    Sven Ottke vs Reid

    Cassamoyer vs Cruz

Vito Antuofermo vs Marvin Hagler 1

Marco Antonio Barrera vs Rocky Juarez

Ali vs Norton 2&3 (very questionable and close decisions)

Here's one....Sugar Ray Leonard decision over Marvin Hagler! I was only a kid when I watched that fight but I knew enough to know when another fighter was getting the **** beat outta him. Sure Leonard won a few rounds but Hagler had that fight won in the 6th round! He just wan't a kiss *** pretty boy like Ray Leonard and that's why he lost! That was complete B.S.!!
