The code is all about the serial key of your operating system. You should enter the correct code. You must use an xp cd that matches with the serial key that you have already installed. It would be invalid to use other xp installer that doesn't with the installed os.

You've already gone 4 steps beyond what you needed. Usually when it shows no operating system, its a read error on the main disc, or a corrupted boot file. Simplest fix is to boot into safe mode (if you can) and go with dos command....if you can't then you need to get into dos command and type "fixboot" no quotes, and then yes....that'll repair the boot.ini file and usually fix the problem.
That being said, you are in the spot where you need to revert back to the restore disc....what you'll need to do, and this is going to erase everything on the drive so if you have the means, use a seperate computer and hook up your main hard drive as a slave to it and backup your files. If not you could run a repair install but theres no way of knowing for sure if your restore disc will backup exisitng file or not.
You'll need to do a full reinstall, and select to leave current file system intact.....this should not only overwrite the other installation files, but also get you into your correct version (OEM).....If you get to 99 percent again and an error comes up, you'll have to do a complete repair, rather than install....you'll need to reformat the drive (this will definately wipe out your files) and start all over with a fresh (clean) install.

Put in the xp disk and it will come to a page where you can delete the partitions. Delete the partitions and then restart it and put in the recovery disk. That should come up before it asks for a key. It will install it like a new hard drive. It wont see any prior installs
If that doesnt work try the key on the back of your computer with the xp cd

your hard drive is causing the problem
its not formatting properly probably due to a dodgy partition..... using the xp disk boot up untill you get the the hard drive partition selection bit.... delete all the partitions but dont reformat them instead reboot and use your restore disks.... let the restore program format the hard drive instead
