Every one knows that Ne-Yo can write a song, but his wide range of moods are prevalent throughout the album. Whether it be his profession of love for those who can take care of their own (“Miss Independent”), inquisitions of how the lady in his life stays with him regardless of his wrongs (“Why Does She Stay”) or going with fantasy instead of brutal reality (“Lie To Me”), Ne-Yo is able to capture such a wide array of emotions in twelve songs.

When great pen and pading and production come together, Ne-Yo excels way beyond what the rest of his peers are doing ( exceptions to usher of course) . “Fade Into The Background” is the perfect example of pure gold. With Ne-Yo lamenting about a missed opportunity with a newly married woman, the live drums and bass line provide the perfect backdrop for him to paint the scenery with his smooth vocals. Polow da Don offers up a tasty treat for Ne-Yo to work with on “Single.” It further proves that Polow is an incredible producer who can own R&B and showcases Ne-Yo’s ability to make a radio friendly jam. It may catch a few off guard because the song is also off the New Kids On The Block’s recently released album. But it is good to hear Ne-Yo sing the songs that he’s penned for other artists as they were meant to be sang such as Rihanna’s “Take A Bow” and Beyonce’s “Irreplacable.”

My favorite song on the album is Fade into the backround because right now i can relate to it and i believe the production song writing and the way he hit the notes on the song were superb. My 2 least favorite songs is probally mad and part of the list. Overall id give it a 8/10 on a 10 point scale.

I love Neyo, but Closer reminds me of a gay club whenever I hear it. I can't stand Bust it Baby due to Plies, but Miss Independent is straight, but I don't know if this album will live up to the first two. We'll see cause I love Neyo's song writing.

i think the song "single" is much better on the new kids on the block album, it sounds a little different on ne-yo's album without the new kids harmonizing with him!

my 2 fav songs are definately

    - part of the list (i love the guitar riffs and i think his voice and everything just makes this such a beautiful song)

    - mad

and as far as more upbeat songs since those 2 are more along the lines of slow jams, i liked miss independent.

Well i have just heard the songs "Closer","Bust It Baby" and "Miss.Independant" but they're all AMAZING. Neyos deffitely one ofthe best songwriters out there if not the best.
