What kind of answer are you expecting?
- In general, I'd say it's because x64 Operating systems are becoming more popular - and weren't in the past.
In the past, there were issues with program compatibility with x64 vs x86 systems.
Though it's still an issue, a lot of programs are now compatible with x64 systems.
With the recent release of DirectX 10, most hard-core gamers are using DX10 (or not at all due to their stubborn refusal to switch to VIsta.)
I wouldn't say that people think they are new, they just think that they're associated with high-end machines.
