Can't Open Attachments in Yahoo Mail?
I sent a word document to myself through Yahoo mail as an attachment. I did this to send a document from one computer to another that was attached to a printer. I click on the attachment to open it and the message says that Norton is scanning for viruses. The problem is that the scan never ends, it just keeps "scanning" and I can't turn it off. It doesn't tell me I have a virus by the way. How can I get around this so I can print the document besides hooking up the original computer to the printer?
The yahoomobile is helpful. Looking forward to the permanent fix.

Hi Patrick,
I had the same problem on Saturday and found a permanent fix for receiving attachments.
However, here's a quick workaround, the Yahoo mobile mail site: http://m.yahoo.com/mail (there's no Norton AntiVirus feature there to stop the attachment download).
I'll finish the post after I post this, so you can have this workaround quickly.
Addendum:
Two possibilities for fixes that I know of:
1) This one didn't work for me, but might for you:
http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AiWtv...
2) The AT&T Yahoo Mail online Norton AntiVirus uses a pop-up function and Java Script to work (according to 2nd-tier support on Saturday), so I fixed my Norton AntiVirus (NAV) perpetual scanning problem by changing my onboard antivirus site settings for the Yahoo Mail URL http://mail.yahoo.com/ (and for www.yahoo.com) to allow popups and Java Script. (I don't have Norton AntiVirus on my computer; I have Computer Associates Internet Security Suite.) After these changes, Norton AntiVirus was able to scan the my online mail-account attachments. <The attachment problem was present whether I used Firefox or Internet Explorer for a browser.>
I hope one of these fixes works for you. Let us know here if you get the problem cleared.
If you later want to send or receive encrypted attachments, you'll need to use a workaround for that (or, I have had to use one). IMHO the online Yahoo Mail NortonAntivirus can't scan encrypted files (due to the encryption) and thus it won't let them download or upload.
If this later becomes a problem for you, I have 2 workarounds:
I opened a new free Windows Live Hotmail account (http://get.live.com/mail/options) for sending and receiving encrypted attachments, and I can also use the Yahoo mobile account for receiving them.
Just like Yahoo Mail, the Live.com mail site has an AV scanner (not NAV), but it allows you to choose to download (or upload) an attachment if the scanner can't scan it. In other words, you are allowed to use your good sense and onboard software to decide if the attachment is safe before opening it. (BTW, Live.com email scanner changes the file extension of the downloaded file, so you'll have to change it back to the original extension after you download it.)
I feel your angst. Saturday for me was call-center welcome-to-hell day at first tier; second tier was better...back to earth. On the other hand, there is 24/7 support, and there seems to be an honest effort to listen by support.
Best wishes.
P.S. If anyone knows of a setting onboard that I could change (that worked for you) that will allow AT&T Yahoo Mail NAV encrypted file download and upload, then tell me and I'll humbly admit it was my computer settings that were causing the present problem (like it was for the unencrypted attachments) instead of the failure of Yahoo Mail to give us the choice to download unscanned attachments.

found this old email thread while trying to fix a same problem I am having...used to be able to open my image attachment on yahoo, not anymore...tried both on laptop and iPhone, even on iPhone app...same result. Security setting for image download is correct. Can't find anyway to contact yahoo. Big mess.

I switched to g - mail and now can view the attachment just fine. Worked an hour in Yahoo mail trying to get it opened. Sent the email to g - mail and they even had a preview for it.
Couldn't get a straight answer in Yahoo.

For the last few days, I could not open any attachments using Chrome. When I accessed email using my regular internet access instead of Chrome, the attachments opened.. The "help" feature on Chrome is also not working.

Does not matter. Won't work in Mozilla either. I think it a Yahoo specific issue. My other e-mail providers work fine.
Grrr.
Will have to revert to another provider if Yahoo continues to pretend it is not a problem.

Attachment opens in iPad Air, but when I forward the entire email the attachment will not open in my old iPad2.

I can't open or download attachments on this computer and my other computer. Please don't tell me this is a computer problem. Every time you change something on Yahoo, I have a different problem. Some I can live with, but not this one. Please consider your older followers before you keep changing things. I'm at a point where I am thinking of changing to another source.
