It's the "magic" of television, digital effects, and a food stylist.....it's also because IT IS bigger.

They make the hamburger patty thicker..then it is painted by the stylist with oil to make it shiny.

Even the pickles, if you notice are thicker, notice the curly lettuce too....big macs are made with iceberg lettuce which is NOT curly.

The bun is darker than in reality.

The onions are strategically placed on the rim if the burger.

And PLEASE notice that the pointed ends of the cheese are always bent downward in the same position. I am serious...look at 2 different pics.

I know I am unusual to notice all these things but I am a foodie, my BFF is an author of 3 cookbooks....so she works with stylists for her books and I have been at her photo shoots...it is so interesting.

It is doctored up in the ad to make it look more appealing than it actually is. It is just a little bit of a crap shoot with what you decide to buy. Some items can be what they appear others are not. It also depends on which McDonalds you got it from, one can fix a big mac better than another, as far as the squashed part.

It's trick advertising. They make burgers look like they are too large for the bun, the meat is steaming, the cheese is melting and your mouth is watering...

Then you run out to get that burger, the bun is hard, it's hiding the little patty of meat and the sandwich is only luke warm.

    They got you!

If they advertised the sandwich the way it actually looks, no one would buy it.

It's called "artistic license". We refer to it as a big ripoff. Basically it's to get you to buy the product. You will find for the most part business will promise the world and hope they can deliver .

AAAH, and why do models from Victoria Secret look like they have bigger breasts than they really do?

Same reason. STAGING. Both are carefully prepared including angling and lighting to look their most appetizing!.

    Bon apetit!

They use food styling and actual fresh food. Plus they use a wide lens camera to make the food appear bigger than it actually is.
