Fellow Christians, if one must believe in Jesus to be saved...?

what will happen to those who have lived and died who never heard of him (e.g. Native Americans before Europeans arrived on the continent with Christianity)?

Many "Christians" would condemn them to Eternal Hell.

    Example:

"Those that believe that Jesus, who is God, died for our sins on the cross and rose from the dead, go to heaven. Those that die without having believed, are sent to eternal hell."

What a sadistic point of view.

Those who say such things lack an understanding of Christ's atonement.

  • Research paganism on youtube.

Look up Mithraism, Amen Ra, the Sun God, Easter, Christmas, and Isis giving birth to Hotep.

I was a Christian for a long time, but am Pagan now. I do not want to push this on you...just look.

Christianity stole from paganism...the last supper was stolen from Mithra (a pagan god), Christmas and Easter are pagan holidays that honor nature and life. (Mithra died and three days later was brought to life to save mankind).

Why do you think you say Amen at the end of a prayer. Short for Amen Ra, the egyptian sun god.

Isis (an egyptian goddess) gave birth to Hotep ( a christ like figure), and upon his birth three wise women came to visit the child bearing gifts. This all predates the Bible.

Early Christians were called Gnostics and believed in Jesus metaphorically. Constantine made it law that Christianity was a tr

ue religion and that Jesus was a real historical figure.

I'm not trying to shatter your faith just do some research.

We are all interconnected spiritual beings who need each other to find enlightenment and need to realize there is a higher power. Christianity puts strict rules on this and forces you into a certain mindset. As you guys put it, what would Jesus do?

There have been and still are many such tribal people who have never heard of Jesus; personally, I think they should be left alone too carry on the lives they know best.

God will look at each one of use, including those who have accepted Christ, and God will be the Judge of each one of us, whether Saved or not, and there will no doubt be a few surprises in store for many an individual.

They are only accountable if they have heard the Gospel and then rejected God. But I believe that even their sense of believing in the Great White Buffalo was saying that their conscience knew there was a higher power than themselves.

I have often thought about the Aborigines and Native people that have not had the chance to hear the Gospel. I believe that God still shows them His ways.

Im LDS and we believe that when people die, they go to a type of holding place. Those who knew and accepted the fullness of the gospel will be called on to teach those who did not ever have a chance to hear it in its fullness. Then those people will have the chance to accept the gospel or reject it with a clear mind and full understanding of the implications of either decision.

We also perform the ordinances that are necessary to salvation- baptism, confirmation, gift of the holy ghost, etc... in temples by proxy for the dead. If they accept the gospel, they can then accept the ordinances and become full heirs of all Christ has to offer just as though they accepted the gospel on the earth.

God loves ALL His children, not just those who hear the gospel on the earth. He has provided a way for ALL of us to come back to Him and be glorified with Him if we will accept His plan.

    1 Pet. 4: 6

6 For for this cause was the gospel preached also to them that are dead, that they might be judged according to men in the flesh, but live according to God in the spirit.

    1 corinthians 15: 29

29 Else what shall they do which are baptized for the dead, if the dead rise not at all? why are they then baptized for the dead?

    Good question!

We as LDS believe all who died without a knowledge of Christ, will have the opportunity, after this life, to be taught the gospel. It will then be up to them to decide if the will accept or reject the gospel. I don't know if you have ever heard - we LDS perform baptisms and other necssary ordinances by proxy, for our ancestors who never had the ordinances performed for them. Once the ordinance is performed, the person is free to choose whether or not they accept it. If they do, great, if they don't it doesn't "hurt" them. They are under no obligation to accept, they still have their agency. There is more to it than that, but that is the basics.

I don't believe that God would just throw them into hell... that wouldn't be fair and He MUST be fair AND just.

This is a very commonly asked question. There are two possible responses. First, it could be that those who have never heard the gospel of Jesus Christ will go to hell. Second, it could be that those who have never heard of Jesus Christ and the gospel will be judged in a different way than those who have heard of Jesus.

The Bible does not tell us specifically about what happens to those who have never heard. But it does say that Jesus is the only way to salvation (Acts 4:12). If it is possible that someone who has not heard the gospel can be saved, it must be through Jesus Christ and him alone (John 14:6). But, it could not be that a person who is not heard of Jesus can make it to heaven based upon being good since that would violate the scriptural teaching that no one is good (Rom. 3:10-12).

If all people who have never heard of the gospel of Jesus Christ end up in hell, then that would be right because God would never do anything that is improper. On the other hand, if any of them end up in heaven, then it would be the right thing to do for the same reason.

But, if righteousness before God can be achieved through being good, or sincere, or by following various laws, then Jesus died needlessly: "I do not nullify the grace of God; for if righteousness comes through the Law, then Christ died needlessly," (Gal. 2:21).

Because the Scripture does not specifically address this issue, we cannot make an absolute statement concerning it. However, since the Bible does state that salvation is only through Jesus and that a person must receive Christ, then logically we conclude that those who have not heard the gospel are lost. This is all the more reason to preach the gospel to everyone.

"for Whoever will call upon the name of the Lord will be saved. 14 How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard?" (Rom. 10:13-14).

Following are some verses that relate to this topic:

John 3:36, “He who believes in the Son has eternal life; but he who does not obey the Son shall not see life, but the wrath of God abides on him.”

John 14:6, Jesus said to him, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father, but through Me.

Acts 4:12, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.”

Rom. 10:12-15 "For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; for the same Lord is Lord of all, abounding in riches for all who call upon Him; 13 for “WHOEVER WILL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD will be saved.” 14 How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? 15 And how shall they preach unless they are sent? Just as it is written, “HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS!”

1 Tim. 2:5-6, "For there is one God, and one mediator also between God and men, the man Christ Jesus, 6 who gave Himself as a ransom for all, the testimony borne at the proper time."

1 John 5:11-12, "And the witness is this, that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life."

Rev. 20:15, "And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire."

For the ones that never heard of him, they will go to heaven. But that's the reason the go to heaven, not the way.

All those who never had a chance, who never heard of Him or grew up in a culture that didn't know Him will be taught in the future.

Everyone who dies goes to heaven, believers and non-believers.
