Can someone explain concentration in a degree?

For example, on resumes:

BS degree in Political Science

Concentration in French & Russian Politics

Does this mean most of the courses were in those categories, or did you need a separate certificate or how does it qualify for "Concentration?"

Update:

So, how would I know if I have a concentration?

A concentration is a specific focus within a major. For example, I am majoring in business management, but I have a concentration in general management as well as a in human resources.

While my major is still business management, I have taken enough courses to be considered specialized in those other areas.

For the example you listed, your major would be Political Science, but you would have special emphasis (taken additional courses related to) in French and Russian Politics.
