Best place to live in Texas..warm, clean, low cost of living, not much traffic, scenery, etc?

I'm looking to move to Texas, but not sure where yet. I've heard many positive things about Austin, but I'm still not sure whether it is the place for me or not.

Can you tell me the best place in Texas that meets these requirements:

1. warm

2. clean

3. low crime rate

4. beautiful scenery

5. good job selection

Also, what city in the world is Austin comparable to?

Austin is my favorite city in Texas. I've been to Houston, Dallas-Ft. Worth and there is no comparison. I've been through San Antonio and it ok for visiting. Austin is beautiful hill country. It is warm, clean, and lots of fun. There is always something to do, you will meet interesting people and hang out at cool spots. Austin is a college town. I would compare it to Boulder, Colorado except the people are super nice. It's fun to walk down 6th street at night and people watch. I always felt safe in Austin. I believe there is a pretty good job selection.

    Good Luck! :)

  • My sister-in-law and her family live in San Antonio and they can't say enough good things about it. They say the cost of living there is very good, the city is clean and it is family-oriented. For about $200,000 can get a huge house with 5 bedrooms and 2-3 bathrooms and a big yard. Low crime rate and the whole shebang. If my sister-in-law hasn't moved yet by the time our kids are grown (her husband is in the military), then we may move there ourselves one day. Google it and you will see what a beautiful city it is. Also, it's just enough inland to be out of the path of hurricanes.

I like to go places to see/experience/learn new things but I always come home again. I know that very few people are like me. Until I was 29 I lived walking distance from my parents, brother, and all 4 grandparents. Add another couple miles and you can include 2 aunts/uncles and 2 cousins with their spouses and kids. I'm a little more planted then you are. If you're feeling the itch I think it is time to move on. Enjoy the experience!

w/ those requirements i would say New Braunfels tx. It's definitely warm, clean, crime isn't bad, its got some great scenery and its pretty good sized and located right between Austin and San Antonio. San Antonio is ok but its definitely not beautiful and somebody will steal whatever it is that you don't have bolted down.

There is no city in the world like Austin. There is alot to do but the traffic is horrific.

and don't listen to the idiots comment above me. there plenty of us citizens that would be more than happy to rob you. crime is everywhere.

Source(s): I've lived in Austin and New Braunfels and currently reside in San Antonio

I like The Woodlands. Not busy compared to Houston and a bit low key with many great attractions. I have not moved around much so I am also curious what others have to say.

    Houston, San Antonio,

Amarillo by morning, up from san antone.

    Austin or San Antonio

but.. forget warm - think "hot as hell" in the summer

Texas is a fun state to live in, your going to like it.

As you can see from some of the answers the people can be Really conceited - but that's part of the charm.

Austin is tops, and here's the thing about Texas. We don't compare Texas to anywhere. Texas is special. Come on. Live here for 3 years and you will believe too.
