Catholics: What is your view of this open letter to Sen. Joseph Biden?

Non Catholics don't get it. Think of it this way, saying what Biden says and thinks is the same as for example a prominent Jewish politician saying its ok to think Moses never led his people from Egypt out of slavery then saying some Jews believe this, so it's just one view.
Or say a prominent Muslim polotician saying Mohamed was not the prophet, because that's what some selective Muslims believe. These issues are NOT open for interpretation, these are the bedrock of what these religions believe. This is a core belief , part of doctorn. The cafeteria is closed. In my opinion for Biden to say there is confusion on these belief is an easy cop out for adressing real issue. And to make it appear that we as true Catholics are unsure about what we believe and what it means to be a Catholic is an insult to my integrity as a Catholic who is in full union with the Holy See.

I think it's an excellent letter. I assume Biden won't pay attention and could care less, but at least its out there for others to read and know just where true Catholics stand.

As a public figure, he really should abide publicly with the official Church policy in this matter. There can be no doubt about this. However, those who exploit this issue in order to advocate other issues that destroy the quality of life for the living should also be publicly reprimanded. Personally, I favor both the pro- life issues and the pro-quality of life issues. Pro-life issues must NOT lead to the destruction of quality of life issues. They should go hand in hand. Biden needs repremanding. Depending on the real motives of his opponents, SOME of those folks need to be warned and reprimanded also.

I don't find it condescending, disrespectful, judgmental, or idiotic. I find it right on the money.
Biden may be Catholic, but he is also a moral relativist who tap-dances on this. He says he wouldn't favor abortion for himself (that is, if he was a woman) but sees nothing wrong with somebody else having one, as long as they think it's right for them. Pure relativism. There is no right or wrong, just whatever works for you. And if he indeed draws the line at federal funding of abortion as he has claimed in at least one interview that I've seen, then he's flying in the face of his own party's plank on abortion -- unless he doesn't get what it means by "regardless of ability to pay", and he's been in Washington too long to claim that with any credibility.
The moment his selection as the VP nominee was announced, the fact that he was a Catholic was oh-so-carefully (and repeatedly) mentioned by the press and by his running mate as well as others. Just a few days prior to that, the AP ran a story with the headline that the so-called "Catholic vote" was considered "up for grabs". I was not the only Catholic who viewed the relentless highlighting of Biden's nominal faith as pandering to our constituency. Not to mention presumptuous.
The K of C letter is neither strident nor accusatory, just factual and direct. I am in complete agreement.

Not a catholic, but I was amazed to find that the conservative catholic grandfather of two I know is saying he'll vote Obama. He is just so disappointed with the poor administrations that the Republican party produces. When it comes to Pro-choice vs Incompetence in governorship, they'll choose the bad abortion position. He's a lawyer so he knows there isn't going to be much change there anyway. Abortion is already legal.

My response is harrumph!
If Biden wants to support abortion rights that is up to him. When Biden goes on TV and misrepresents Catholicism that is something different than a political disagreement.

The last I heard, the supreme knight of the K of C is neither the pope nor a bishop. Additionally, Kansas City tends to be conservative. The letter is one point of view and little more.

could care less. it's like thinking all black people steal, all protestants are full of ****, all mexicans are lazy, all asians are good at math, etc...
can't lump all Catholics into one belief. I don't agree with the Pope sometimes, I believe it's a woman's choice whether or not i agree with it. so i could care less what this sect of the Knights of Columbus say. And since it's not signed by all the members in the order I'm not one to judge them based on that.

I find it condescending and judgmental of Biden.
Many Catholics I know are pro-choice even if they temselves would never have an abortion (like Senator Biden).
Disrespectful and idiotic is how I see it.
