How Long Did You Push?

I just got home with my son born Wednesday evening :D

I only pushed for literally 5 minutes, with my daughter I pushed for 45 and was just wondering how long others pushed for since I've heard of women pushing for 2 and a half hours!

I also had an epidural both times and felt the need to push for both, does that make a difference?

You can also add labor details if you want,

I was in labor for about a day before I went in and 6 hours after being there I had him! WOO!

Update:

3 hours???

Wow, I feel so lucky!

Good work, I think I'd have freaked out and hit the doctor if I had to push that long!!!

Update 2:

They had to redo the ep with my son, I started ranting, raving, cursing at my doctor, even asked to be knocked out!!!

To all those who did natural, good for you!

I just could not handle it, I wanted natural for my daughter but got an ep to help speed things along and just knew I wanted it from day 1 this time!

Thanks Texas Mommy :D

Happy to be done early!!!

First of all....Congratulations on the new baby boy!!! :)

With my first child, Connor, I pushed for 20 minutes and I had an epidural with him. I felt the urge to push even with the epidural and he was out pretty quickly for my first child. I was only in labor with him for 8 hours. He torn me all the way around and was the biggest of my two babies at 9 lbs 11 oz.

With my second child, Riley, I pushed for 4 minutes and had her out in two pushes. I had some pain relief but it wore off way before she crowned. Transition was a BIG pain! I was in labor with her for about 7 hours. She even came out face up and I barely tore! She weighed 8 lbs 8 oz. I can definitely say my labor the second time around was a better experience than the first time because I wasn't all doped up.

    Again, Congrats Mommy!

My water broke on a Sunday, and I didn't know, yeah I know, how could I NOT know! I was only 18. I went to the doctor the next day and I was already in labor, didn't know that either, because I was in no pain at all even though my contractions was 3 minutes apart. I was in labor for 12 hours, when the pain really started kicking in around 9 pm that night I went ape sh*t on everyone in the room, I tried to kick my ob/Gyn in the face, I was yelling and screaming for everyone to just get out of the room. I was so glad to get my epidural until it wore off and got another dose of it, finally at 4:04 on Tuesday morning I had my daughter, I pushed for 45 minutes but it really only seemed like 5 or 10 minutes. I had her exactly 1 month early.

I counted about 16 hours of labor from the point where I said "Okay, this hurts now." When it came down to pushing, I'd say I pushed for 5-10 minutes. My son was faced the wrong way, so I had almost all back labor.

Had a little bit of IV medications, but no epidural.

First - 26 hours of labor with 2 1/2 hours of pushing (epidural) - 4 weeks early

Second - 9 hours of labor with 45 minutes of pushing...he was face up (no drugs) - 6 weeks early

First of all, congratulations on your new baby! I hope both you and the little guy are doing well.

I pushed for about 30 minutes. My labor, from the beginning of contractions until my son was born, was 25 hours total. No epidural for me, but I'm definitely not a martyr. I can handle pain well, so I opted to try it without an epi. But to those who want/need it, more power to you! What matters is that you have enough strength to push, and if an epidural helps keep you from getting exhausted due to severe pain, then that's probably the best route to go.

Source(s): Mommy of a 4 - year - old who was born at 35 weeks. I was told that he would probably be between 3 and 4 pounds, but he ended up being 6 lbs, 12 oz. and 20" long - quite the little brute! The little sneak managed to hide himself quite well in there. =)

My pushing lasted less than 15 minutes, for sure! I had an epidural, and I also felt the need to push. My water broke at midnight, and we was born at 7 in the morning... Great experience! You know, they say the second labor goes quicker than the first a lot of times. I sure hope it's true!! :)

I was in labour for a total of 5 hours and pushed for like 15-20 min about 5 pushes and out came a baby boy! It was all natural. Although he was born at 31 weeks, When i went to the hospital I was already fully dilated, which I was told by my doctor that I would feel some discomfort at 7 months which is the baby getting into position so I thought Ok well im having some pain and I remembered what he said about the baby getting ready, and about 3 hours later it was sooo bad I went to my step moms house and she said we need to go to the hospital, I layed in a bed for about an hour till the doctor checked me and she said well your baby is coming NOW!! and they took me to the delivery room and out came Nathan!! he is now 6 and healthy as can be!! after spending 2 months in the NICU!! This time around if I feel anything that I don't feel is right im off to the hospital to prevent a premature birth again!! Good Luck and Congrats!!!

One push for the last three. 10 minutes worth of pushing for the first.

    EDIT: Oh, I did have an epidural with # 1 and # 4 (8 lb 10 oz, 9 lb 3 oz). No epidural with # 5 and # 6 (7 lb 3 oz, 9 lb 13 oz). All of them were induced. 2 and 3 were c-section twins.

    Congrats on your new baby.

I pushed for almost 4 hours with my first which were twins. I was in labor for 3 days! I pushed for close to 3 1/2 hours for one and then the second was born 32 minutes later so in total I pushed for about 4 hours. I had an epideral and the reason it took so long is because I was 6 weeks early and they originally tried to stop the labor with drugs (don't remember the name of it). That didn't work and only made me very sick so they stopped that and let me go but by then they had slowed the process down so they had to give me petocin (spelling?) to speed it up but in the end it took forever!

My second pregnancy (third child) I was in labor for a total of 7 hours and I pushed for about 20 minutes. I had an epideral with him as well.

With my youngest I did not have any pain medication because we barely made it to the hospital. I literally pushed like 3 times and he was out.

EDIT: why would any of us get thumbs down for sharing our experience? What, someone doesn't agree with this experience? As if I could control it? LOL
