    Magnesium metal is highly reactive and will react with H2SO4.

    Magnesium hydroxide and oxide are both basic and will therefore react with dilute sulphuric acid to form magnesium sulphate.

    The magnesium nitrate is the one that won't react with the dilute acid, but it will dissolve in it giving magnesium and nitrate ions. The reason for this is that Mg has already reacted with nitric acid to give you magnesium nitrate in the first place.

    However, magnesium nitrate will definetly react with CONCENTRATED H2SO4 and you can make nitric acid by doing this.

    Mg(NO3)2 + H2SO4 + heat --> MgSO4 + 2HNO3

    you will possibly would desire to look on the question in opposite, what does hydrochloric acid have that sulfuric acid doesnt? whats the oxygen content textile of the two acids? barium is reactive with oxygen yet no longer with inert gases. you could have barium sulphate and additionally you recognize how salts are formed i presume? i won't be in a position to furnish an answer as i'm crap at chemistry, or if i did understand the respond i could no longer provide you it besides. Theres no aspect understanding the respond to some thing which you won't be in a position to be sure your self. yet heavily strip aside each and every little thing which you recognize with reference to the question. 2 compounds one factor. why and what? thank you for the thumbs down, like i mentioned i'm crap at chemistry yet i can artwork out issues greater effective than maximum who've an preparation. Thats ok take the cheats way, the respond above i'm specific is right you could thank him once you fail your GCSE's

    1 & 4) MgO and Mg(OH)↓2 neutralize the hydrogen ions in the acid

    2) Mg replaces the hydrogen ions

    3) The salt ions merely mix with the acid ions, no reaction
