How do you play the game cops and robbers?

If you are referring to the playground game, the way I remember playing it is you have one person as the cop and the rest of your friends are the robbers, once you catch a robber he becomes a cop and helps you catch the other robbers. OR I remember we had one team of cops and the other of robbers, one cop would guard the "jail" (any confined area) and the other cops would try to catch the robbers, if the robber got caught he would go to jail. A robber could free another robber by touching him in jail.
A lot of fun...brings back good memories.
