Dogs don't have menstrual cycles, it's called heat. Most small breed dogs have their first heat at 6 months and every 6 months thereafter or at least until an owner who's conscious of their dog's health gets them spayed. The cycle lasts for 3 weeks and she needs to be kept away from all male dogs the entire time. It's also not safe to let her out in the back yard by herself because intact male dogs are very, very clever at getting to b1tches in heat and causing unwanted litters which would be extremely dangerous for a puppy.

dogs dont technically menstruate.. they go thru estrus. There is a difference.

Dogs can actually start anytime from around 6 months on.. Ive heard of them starting as early as 4 months, but 6-8 months is the average.. and some can start as late as 14 months even!

She will be in heat approx 3 weeks. Keep her away from all males! Do NOT leave her outside unattended, not even in a fenced in yard! Use a leash when you take her outside.

She will go into heat approx eveyr 6 months, unless you get her spayed.. which I highly reccommend for her health.

Read more carefully - dogs don't "menstruate", they go into heat cycles (estrus) about ever six months.
