Ethernet Splitter question?

I have a Airlink Powerline Turbo 85Mbps Ethernet Adapter APL8511 (not entirely sure on the code, but it probably doesn't even matter) and I was wondering, can I attach an ether net splitter to it? Well I know I can. but it will actually work?

why would you split the ethernet cable. Just get you a router and go from teh cable modem to the router and then you will have 4 ports on the router to use and the wireless if you got a wireless router. Much easier to network. Thanks
