Best RB in NFL History?
Give me your opinion on who the best running back in the history of the NFL is? My honest opinion in going to be LaDainian Tomlinson. Look at all the records he has and all the Pro-Bowl trips. Ya better than even Jim Brown and Walter Payton. I will quote Marty Schottenhiemier on that as well. When Jim Brown and Walter Payton were playing, you didnt have LB that could be as powerful as they LB are today and still run a 4.4 40yd dash.

My pick is Jim Brown.
Here are my reasons:
1. Brown played in 5-12 game seasons and 4-14 game seasons. Tomlinson has played in all 16 game seasons. So the records are kind of not so meaningful there.
2. Marty is right, but the equipment back in the day was not as streamlined as it is today. Also, the fields were worse. Watching some of the NFL shows and they played some games in mud pits and god-awful fields. Plus, training started in training camp and ended when the season did. There were no-offseason programs, no OTA's. Also, they played six preseason games instead of four and the there were no things like "you will only play a half or a quarter", etc..
3. Championships-Cleveland went to three NFL Championships and won one (1964) (there was no Super Bowl then), The Chargers lost in AFC Champinship.
Who knows five years from now, I could be wrong, but Brown is my pick now.

Jim Brown is the most beastly toughest runner averaging 100 yards a game. No one wants to tackle Jim Brown. He struck fear, he was good for 5 yards a pop.
Barry Sanders was also exciting, but played for a terrible franchise.
LT is soft, since last year's AFC title game where he sat out he's just been soft.
Walter Payton was also awesome. I'd put him in #3.

Walter Payton

The fact that he retired early hurt him as well as playing for a weak team like the Lions, but I think that only him and Jim Brown are the best running backs ever. Even though Emmitt was a good running back I think that if Sanders would of had the offensive line that he had there is no telling how many yards he would of ended up with. I also think that if he doesn't get injured L.T. could become the greatest ever.

Depends on the style you like best. Nobody could drag an entire defense across the goal line like Earl Campbell, or make tacklers look foolish like "Sweetness". Over all, I'd have to say Barry Sanders. The man was a one man show, no other offense to take the heat off of him, no blocking, and yet he put up huge numbers year in and year out.

They didn't have the huge line either. I could run with the line LT has. Jim Brown set the bar for all to follow.

Jim Brown.....to average over 5 yards per carry for your entire career is crazy (lets not forget he retired "early" as well)
