Why does my DVR have a mind of its own?
Okay, I have a DVR and love it. I use it all the time. But on occasion, I will set up an hour recording at, say, around 2:00 a.m. About once a month or so, it will not only record the show I want but will also record about 4 more hours that I did not set up. Why does it record longer than I tell it to? It ties up a lot of my free space and is annoying. Thanks!
I didn't even think to mention the "brand". I have Comcast cable and it is one of theirs that I "rent" or "lease" for a small monthly fee. Keeps me from having to pay maintenance costs. Some would slam it due to the fact that it is Comcast or cable in general, but I prefer cable - I think it is the best available option. Any way, it is built into my cable box and allows us to record many hours of programming. Sometimes though it just records too much. The time slots are clearly defined. I don't know why it does it when it does it.

you didn't mention what brand of dvr you have so these suggestion may or may not help....is it possible that its skipping your 2:00 a.m. show because you already have that episode recorded or watched and deleted it within the last 28 days. and the times its recording extra time, are you recording a sporting event or other type of live show, it may be tiring to make sure you don't miss the extra innings or overtime. i suspect that if these scenarios don't fit for your dvr that the problem is with the dvr software

I seriously miss the Tivo's... Obviously, Directv's attempt at the DVR service isn't great. Its just how it is, their Recievers are usually always screwy with at least on thing on it.
I say, you continue recording your 5 hours of programing, and then save up for when the TiVO-Directv DVR comes out in OCtober.

It's probably because the way programming is set up for late night. The programming late at night is not cut and dried like it is in prime time. shows switch around often and your receiver may not be able to tell when one ends and one begins.
