Need help, Sore throat remedies?

Since thursday I've had a sore throat and cant eat or drink because the pain is so bad. I cant even drink water without getting this horrible pain in my throat and occasionally this pain that seems to spread to my ears when i try to drink something. I'm practically living off cough drops and the vicks chloraseptic throat spray. my doctor gave me Ibuprofen and zithromax. I need help finding foods and stuff to drink, i want to eat but I can't because of the pain.

Update:

How often are you suppose to gargle salt water? I've been told atleast 6 times a day to once every hour.

Update 2:

So far I've just been gargling with salt water twice a day

Boil water (like you're going to make a cup of tea) then when it gets to a temperature that you can drink (but still hot) add about a tbsp. of baking soda (a few shakes of salt optional) Don't drink it though - Gargle with this mixture! This cleans out the bacteria and infection in your throat. If the sore throat is resulting from your sinuses draining, get a nasal bidet. They work wonders! They're about $20.00, they come with the little packets which you add to the water. It looks like a little plastic teapot, you add lukewarm water to the little teapot, add the packet (it's also baking soda and salt) shake it up, pour it in one nostril and it will go all through your sinuses and flush them out. The water will come out the other nostril. It may sound unpleasant but it's really not. And if you have a sinus infection, it will do wonders. Generally, you can tell if it's a sinus infection if you have pain between your eyes and just above your eyebrows or around your cheekbones. Also, if you wake up with a lot of gunk in your throat in the morning, it could also be because your sinuses have been draining into your throat while you sleep. Pharmacies usually carry the Nasal Bidet (although they don't seem to all be aware of it). They probably all have different brand names. One brand name is NasaFlo ( I included the link below).

Sounds like strep throat. You better be sure to take all the meds the doc gave you. If you aren't better in a few days, go back. Strep throat is horrible. There is nothing that takes care of the pain until the meds kick in and the infection begins to heal. You may try sucking on ice or chomping ice chips.

i always drink hot tea with honey, the heat helps swelling and the honey coats it. if you can drink a couple swallows of peach schnaps microwaved with honey in it will work wonders! NO COLD...MAKES IT WORSE!
