Are the Vikings premature in replacing Tavaris Jackson?
I don't follow the team closely, but it seems that Gus is not the answer for winning a super bowl. Maybe a chance for Jackson to watch the games and see the action from the sideline, would be beneficial.

I think they should not have done it. But if you are going to make a change, then doing it early is better than doing it late. And Frerotte is probably a better idea than Booty right now. The rookie might be the QB of the future, but he isn't ready right now. So you start the veteran for the rest of the year and hope the change will spark your passing offense. Your run offense is playoff caliber. Your defense is playoff caliber. The Vikings need to pass the ball and balance out that offense. Jackson just cannot do it on a consistent basis. He can do it sometimes, but not consistently. Hopefully, for Minnesota, Frerotte will be consistent. That's why they make the change. Early better than later, especially if you think that Jackson isn't improving fast enough. I do not think that Tavaris Jackson will play another snap in Minnesota unless there is an injury. Once it is his time (next year maybe?), I'm sure that the Vikings will try to work John David Booty into the offense. That's just my guess. Heck, maybe next year the Vikings will try to trade for Favre again. Who knows?
----Good job by the Vikes to win their first game. They were so close to winning their first two as well. I'm not sure how much Frerotte had to do with it, but maybe the change was just enough. Now you stick with it. With everyone else losing in the division, it was perfect for the Vikings. I still think the NFC North is the Vikings to lose. Time will tell.

No. Personally, I think the reason he's not starting is because the coaching staff realizes the pieces aren't in place for Jackson to succeed. They have the talented RB's, but protection up front is spotty. Considering how great their left side is in run protection, the O-line as a whole does not block well for the QB. Sidney Rice is still developing into a go-to target but outside of him, there are no real threats in the WR corps.
Recievers dont get separation, defenses are creeping up closer to the line and with AP in the back, they are trying to stifle the running game. It's hard to win games (as a QB) when the things you need (open recievers, time to throw, good playcalling) aren't there. I think Gus Ferotte is just a placeholder. If Ferotte is the "answer" for the rest of the season, they are not trying to beat teams like Green Bay and win the division.

YES !!!
Seeing that I'm a Packer fan there's nothing I'd like better than having them keep Jackson as the starting quarterback .
Really the guy is not very good at all . I don't think he'd even make on the Packers third string . It kind of makes you wonder about the Vikings . They tell people they're Super Bowl contenders and yet when building the team they chose a dork like him to be their leader .

I listen you on each aspect you made, highly the race component. yet for some reason the media and Minnesota is confident that a 40 twelve months previous detached bicep tendon linked to a damaged rotator cuff is extra proper than Jackson. Nevermind the actual incontrovertible reality that Favre threw those 20 options and has shown statistical decline in the course of the actual of the season over the finest 4 seasons. we are going to see what occurs with Favre. Minnesota will for sure shop Jackson and if Favre is going down (which does no longer suprise me) Jackson desires to step up and prepare everybody incorrect.

It looks like a panic move to me. But if it is a temporary spark and gives Jackson a week or 2 to get his head straight (he was horrific last week) and they work with him and put him back in shortly it could pay big dividends for the rest of the season. And I also doubt it was a coaching decision as much as a meddling owner situation. And you are correct, Gus has never been the answer.

Jackson is terrible. Gus wont lead them to a Super Bowl but Jackson isn't even capable of leading them to a winning record. They had no threat of a passing game with him.

NO. He's had more than enough time to show what he can do. The problem with a lot of coaches and owners is that they get seduced by the athleticism and possible upside of young black QB's. But instead of developing them, like McNabb, McNair, and too some degree Vince Young, the coaches get starry eye'd about a few highlight plays, that are too flukish to be consistent. Ultimately all good QB's learn that they can not do it all with their legs and arm, they need to trust in their team.

Nah, not really, 3rd week of the season have to do something. The vikings might have a more solid run game with a pocket passer. I picked them to win there division

Thus far, Jackson has proven one thing- he is made of fail. His passing accuracy is subpar and his decision-making leaves much to be desired.
You could make an argument for his running ability. On the other hand, defenses can easily shut down his attempts to run because they don't have to drop linebackers into coverage since... they don't have to worry about big passes.

no. this year is already down the drain. they need to get a qb that can actually do the basic fundamentals to win a game. no clue why they drafted john david booty when colt brennan was still available but i hear they might go for matt cassel or brady quinn because there contracts are up.
