Kyle Busch needs to finish 25 points ahead of any current leader in the next 8 races to win the Cup. Thoughts?
According to my general math anyway. I'm not stating fact..... My source is my always handy calculator.......This is assuming the #99, Edwards, always finishes 25 points or so behind KB as well as the first 6 Chase Contender's finish behind Edwards....
Can KB pull it off? He'd have to drive 8 near perfect races from here on out?

Just because he is not mathematically eliminated does not mean he isn't realistically eliminated from contending for this year's championship. Even if he won every single race from here to the end, I don't think he would win the championship. Last year Jeff Gordon averaged something like a 5.1 finishing spot in the chase races. Jimmie had a 5 flat average and beat him PLUS Clint Bowyer was not far behind them. Even if Kyle wins out he will only have an 8.5 average finish, I keep my calculator handy also. With 12 drivers, instead of the original 10, and the use of the COT I think things are too close for anyone to make up that much ground in this short of time. Two or 3 drivers will make it through all 10 races without any major setbacks and they will be the ones racing for the win at Homestead. Just my opinion. I also think that Denny Hamlin and Matt Kenseth are basically out of contention but you never know.

Good question! I felt the same way last year when HMS seemed to own every race! I just kept hoping that something would happen to change the winning streak they were on. Along came the COT, Toyota, or whatever and scrambled things up! I'm not a Kyle Busch fan per say, but I'm glad it happened! It was so boring last year knowing who was going to win each week. Kyle is to inconsistent to win every week so it's OK with me. Carl also has three wins this year! What any of the drivers do off the track, short of a felony, doesn't effect the way I feel about them as a driver. It is racing and as was said above Kyle Busch and his JGR team are out working the other teams right now! That will change, it is just a matter of time, as it was with HMS! They are still very competitive, but just not as much so!!!

Your math is correct for him to beat Carl Edwards But he also has to worry about Greg Biffle, Jimmie Johnson and the rest of the top 8 or so. He may be able to move ahead of 3 or 4 of them but not all them. He is pretty much out of title hopes. His best bet is a huge crash at Talledega that takes out 11 chase contenders and not him

although it seems unlikely, it definitely isn't out of the realm of the possible. and that's only one scenario by which it could play out for him to win it all. if enough drivers get caught up a "big one" at any of the remaining tracks - particularly talladega and martinsville - he could move up more quickly.
is it possible, yes. is it likely, probably not. but now is no time for us rowdy fans to give up hope. there are eight more cup races to go, not to mention however many more nationwide and truck races he'll be in. whether he wins the cup championship or not, i look forward to his performances every weekend, both on and off the track. no matter where he finishes, i am still ecstatic with the year he's had so far. although winning the championship is the ultimate goal, the fact that he accomplished all he did this year has more than proven what he is capable of.

No, I really don't think it can happen...
There's Edwards, Johnson, and Biffle in this hunt...
They all simply can't wreck in any given race....One of them will be up there and at least one of them will do good in one of the next 8 races..

Good luck with your math, but I say "He's toast as far as the chase goes!" Just had to much bad luck at the wrong time. But he will win more races this season! That's always something to be proud of !!
PEACE!!

Most likely not..However that being said, I refuse to give up on him.
I will be holding out that he can make some kind of Superhero comeback, and will not count him fully out until the checkered flag waves at Homestead..
My heart broke for him today.....poor kid.
