my puppy has a blood in her stool?
she is 4 and half month old.i have with her an appointment at vets in the morning.all of a sudden, today, she had a little bit blood in her stool.very little, but it was there.out of 5 times she did her business, she had it 3 times, and the two times in the middle she didnt.she eats royal canin food, and we cook for her chicken, carrot and rice. we mix it all together.she ate that yesterday for lunch and dinner. dont know could that caused it, but i doubt that. today she grabbed the soap, but i took it from her immediately, but that couldn't be the reason either.coz morning bloody stool happened before she grabbed the soap.she is a chewer, and grabbers quite allot, ever little bits of rocks when on walk.i try to take out what i can catch, but sometimes im too late. but shes been doing that from day one shes with us and nothing happened to her so far.
u have any ideas.i mean, vet will know the best, but i have heard of many cases here on yahoo but sort of didn't found any satisfied answers.thanks for ur answers.
and one more thing, i dont think she has worms, coz she has been dewormed and had that pill or whatever..anyway, i havent seen worms in her stool, aldo i dont know what they really looks like, but i dont see anything unusual.
maybe they will send blood sample to the lab? u know maybe how much it cost u?
they said that i must bring stool to them, also.
and yea, shes a basset hound.
she is not in pain she is even more cheerful then yesterday, when it was raining and we couldn't go to walk.she is jumping and acting all crazy.so i think, and hope its not parvo.coz she had all of her shots on time.

Puppies are prone to worms, and even though you wormed her, she could have them again. Most likely either hook worms or whip worms. They do cause blood in the stool, but you can't see them with the naked eye. The cost should not be a lot, especially if you take a stool sample to the vet. I'm glad you are getting it checked out.

Bloody stool
there are two types
frank what looks like fresh blood which is from lower in the GI tract
or digested "melana" dark, tarry which is from upper in the GI tract
did the blood look "fresh" or was it darker?
this will make all the difference in the world
also was the stool diarrhea this makes all the difference in the world
if it was frank then it is not as big a deal as the dark blood which indicates severe internal bleeding
frank could be
parasites
straining to defecate
and then actually a number of things
i would watch him closely for diarrhea
get a stool sample that has the blood to show the vet put it in a ziploc and put it in the fridge until you can get it to the vet
the above comment is false stool can stay unrefrigerated for up to 4 hours in reasonable conditions
your vet will do an exam
then do a rectal exam to see what material is there
then they will send off or do a fecal in house
however coccidia is a likely possibility and this is a seperate test that they will send out :(
they will then dispense meds if and only if your dog is having diarrhea
if the fecal results come back positive for any then they will despense meds for that
parvo is a simple test that vets do in clinic
doesn't sound like the classic parvo case though
with parvo you get vomiting, vomiting, then bloody bloddy explosive diarrhea and also lethargy
so don't worry about that most likely not the case :)
if i were you and if you have established a vet with this pup then tonight before they close take them the sample.
They can run it tonight or at least send it off to the lab tonight to get results tomorrow.
If it is positive you may not need to bring him in unless they advise you to.
If he is not lethargic, not having diarrhea then i would just send in the fecal sample
if he having diarrhea then he needs to be seen

Sounds as if she ate something, or someone, she shouldn't have and now has a bit of colitis.
The chicken and rice usually help mild forms of this, as does a little pepto-bismol.
My dachshunds dig and hunt in the yard and sometimes swallow the dirt and get the lizards and frogs when I'm not looking. Once in a while one gets diarrhea like you describe, then I give them rice and white meat, skinless, boneless chicken mixed in their kibble. My vet also suggested plain, active culture yoghurt for the diarrhea.
Your vet will check the stool sample for parasites, if there aren't any, a modified diet for a time will likely be the first line of treatment - occasionally antibiotics are necessary.
The stool is looked at under a microscope, that isn't expensive and I don't see why blood samples would be needed - this is an intestinal issue.
It's quite common, but in small dogs dehydration is a real threat, so it needs to be cured.
Good luck, I'm sure your pup will be fine soon enough.

IF she is eating and acting otherwise okay no worries, n o need to run run to the vet and pay emergency visit .
Most likely it is parasites, not all wormers treat all worms
what you describe is what i call poop w a cherry on top
the cherry being blood.
Most likely cause is coccidia a parasite hight up in the intestine . When she passes stool one or 2 or 3 may fall off the lining of her intestine causing the blood in top.Another sign of coccicdia would be it really i stinky poop and her back bone is on the surface not much fat.
If not parasites and she has access to rawhide small pieces could also nick her intestine , causing the bleeding.
I would take a fresh sample to the vet and ask for a fecal analasos by a lab , results in 24 hours.
It not internal bleeding unless she ate rat poision or got hit by a car or other accident
soap would not cause bleeding , my bet is coccidia or giardia.

She could be slightly constipated or her stool could be dry. She also could have something serious wrong with her. I'm just guessing, as are all the other answers. To be safe, just give your vet a call and describe what is happening. They can tell you if you need to bring her in.
Lab work isn't all that expensive. They can do a fecal in the office to check her stool. Most vets can also do a CBC in house. I'd expect any visit to be under $100. But as I said, I'm guessing and basing it on what my vet charges.
Good luck.

Stress won't put blood in his stool. Could be Parvo in which case you need to get him to the vet before he get's any worse to save his life. Could be worms, which also can be life threatening, especially in such a small pup. They get all the nutrients that the pup should be getting which can very quickly kill a pup. Sounds like the pet store is getting their pups from a puppy mill. I'd have the authorities look into it. You've got a pretty sick puppy on your hands. Get him to a vet now or you won't have him to give shots to in a couple weeks.

You should take puppy and her most recent stool to the vet. She may have worms if you don't know what you are looking for, but more than likely it sounds like there's internal bleeding somewhere probably caused from something she swallowed.

Do not worry until you see the vet and you will/should get the best advice there.
Your puppy could be over straining and that is why it is not in every one.
It could also be something a lot more serious. The vet will do a thorough examination in the morning. Remember not to feed him from about 12 hours before you take him. He will be able to have a slight drink tonight but nothing in the morning.
Good luck.

My mom's dog had blood in stool - a lot of it! She had hook worm. We were shocked because she faithfully gives her Heartguard pills that are supposed to prevent hookworm as well. You really just need to get the dog in to the vet though. It could be one of a million different things. Good luck and let us know!
