If I bought a DTV would I get more channels than I do now?

I only get one channel. There's no cable system out here and I don't want satellite.

Yes, or you could get zero channels!

It's impossible to have a clue what the correct answer is without knowing the zip code, distance to transmitters, and type of antenna & reception quality that you currently have.

In any case, you can pick up just as many channels with a good converter box as you can with the most expensive DTV. For about $20 (after using a government coupon) you can get a Zenith/Insignia model converter and find out for sure.

If the channel that you are now getting is a translator station or in the VHF band (analog channels 2-13), there is a good chance that your current antenna will not pick up any digital stations.

Your talking about the DTV Converter Box? You will only be able to pick up Digital channels on basic television. You might lose some channels until the stations are required to make the switch (jan 09) i think. But you won't pick up more channels unless you pay for them.

It depends on what stations are in your area and what their current broadcast plans are.

For instance, my SD channels come from the south, but my HD channels come from the north. Unfortunately there's a mountain to my north...so, no HD channels for me. Not unless I get a larger antenna, which I wasn't willing to do. Meanwhile, in my mother's city, some of the stations can't afford to go digital, so they're shutting down entirely.

    You should check out http://www.antennaweb.org./

This site contains information about the upcoming switchover to digital broadcasting, as well as help determine what sort of antenna you need to receive TV channels in your area.

Probably not. There has to be a broadcast station in range. If you receive only one now, it is unlikely that you will be able to receive more. Sorry, but satellite is probably the only way to receive more.
