My x collects child SUPPORT in 2 states ? ?

We moved to Ill. got divorced in Il. I paid c/s there. Then Iowa started taking out of my check c/s. Plus Iowa included a child that is not even mine. She also collects ssi and doesn't report that either. My daughter takes care of my x's ssi check. So she doesn't report that. I sent Iowa court copies of the payments I made from the county we got divorced in . Why should i have to pay twice for this ? She knows how to use the systems and the people in them ; but still I am paying the price for years what can I do?

Contact both states and ask for audits and copies of court orders. Why didn't you respond to the summons and complaint for the child that is not yours? Anyway, once you get the court orders, file a motion for the child that is not yours and request a genetic test.

Ongoing child support can be charged for one county at one time since a child can only be in one place at a time. Also, child support agencies can verify social security benefits and depending on what type, it is not used when calculating child support payments. (There is a type of social security that is basically federal welfare.)

When you review the audits if they are double charging you contact the ombudsman in both states and dispute the audits. If you don't get credit for those payments, file a motion and go to court. There are a lot of men who go to court often to dispute things they disagree with regarding child support. You must be proactive.

    Good luck.
