3 hour glucose test bad blood?

I have to take my 3 hour glucose test tomorrow. From what im told they end up taking your blood 4 times....My problem is,everytime i have ever had to have blood drawn (even little amounts) it is hard for the person drawing it to get blood,so how in the world am i supposed to have it drawn that many damn times?

Update:

For the first answer- i took the 1 hour test and it was abnormal which is why they are making me do the 3 hour

For the second- I really dont know what it is,i dont get nervous really,my blood just sucks i guess it might be tiny veins because they never get them to show up,and then when they start flowing theyll just stop or ill almost pass out.

Well you could always refuse, but thats probably not the best answer.

They usually have trouble getting blood out of me to, but they some how managed to get it out without too much trouble at the 3hr glucose for me... and I can't put that down to pregnancy either... as I was having multiple attempts to draw blood daily during the third trimester due to other complications.

Let them know that your normally hard to get blood out of and ask if they can have an experienced nurse draw your blood if they dont feel confident they will get it first time.

Ask if they will set a cath in your arm for the test, that way they don't have to poke you that many times. That's what they did for me when I was younger and had to have a similar test.

I don't know if they do it for adults, but it can't hurt to ask.

Ask if you can squeeze a ball or something like that, it can help the blood flow a little easier.

Another thing you can do (and I do this all the time) is to request the pediatric phelobotimist. I have tiny veins and I REALLY hate needles and tend to panic when I have to have blood drawn. I never, never, NEVER let the nurse draw my blood, I always request a phelobotimist. They draw blood 30 or 40 times a day (at least) and generally do a better job because they have more practice.

I've taken the three hour test twice. It's really not that bad, although the drink is a lot sweeter, which can be hard on an empty stomach. Just sip it rather than guzzling it, as long as you can still finish in the five minute time limit they give you. The part that was worst for me was afterwards. I got pretty shaky after the first time I did the three hour and broke out in a cold sweat. I could barely drive home, and after I got home it took me a few hours to recover. As it turns out, the clinic should have told me to bring something to eat to avoid that reaction. My new ob told me that if I brought a high protein snack to eat immediately after my last blood was drawn it would help me recover more quickly. I did just that, and I had no trouble at all other than feeling just a tad shaky while waiting for the snack to kick in.

I had to have a glucose tolerance test and it took about 3 hours so it's not unusual.

See you can have a heated wheat bag to arm your veins up prior to them taking your blood. Also squeezing a stress ball can also help to raise the veins. I think you can still drink water, ask and if you can its another good way to rehydrate your veins.

Warn whom ever is going to do your blood test and they should be able to select a really small needle to take the blood. They have fine needles for babies and hopefully they can use it on you. Don't watch them drawing the blood and you may feel better.

Good Luck and don't stress. Take a really good book with you, put your feet up and relax. :)

I am writing to tell you what an incredible impact these methods had on my life! I have had type 2 diabetes for 27 years. For me, the worst part of this horrible disease is the severe pain I constantly get in my feet. The pain is so bad that I avoid standing and walking as much as possible. I've got to tell you that within the first month, my feet stopped hurting altogether and I can now walk totally pain free.

Believe it or not, I even danced at my niece's wedding last month, something I have not done in a many years. I've been following the book for six months now and my blood sugar is well within normal range. I feel great!

I recommend you use the Type 2 Diabetes Destroyer to naturally reverse your diabetes.

I was worried about the same thing. Every other time I had blood drawn my Dr sent me to the lab across town b/c they could draw my blood at the office. But on the day of the glucose test everything went fine and they got it on the first try, my blood did fill the tube slowly but everything went well.

I do think mine was only a 1 hour test though...they drew blood once

I had this exact problem once when I was pregnant, and the lady asked me if I had drank anything that day..I said no.. She told me that I need to drink more fluid before getting blood drawn if it wasn't a fasting test.. Maybe the abnormal test came back weird because of something you ate. Regardless I wouldn't worry yourself at all about it.

how far are you? boy or girl or twins?

My sis in law had all kinds of problems like this because of twins.

I assume that you had problems with your 1 hour glucose test. Good luck. They draw blood once every hour for 3 hours, so you have time to recover.

My veins are hard to find too. It might just take a little longer for them to do the test. You'll be ok if you don't get nervous.

    Good Luck!
