Jodphurs are meant to be worn with a short boot and have cuffs with elastics and you wear them with garders. You see this commonly with younger and smaller horse show riders.

Breeches lie flat against your leg so you can wear them with tall boots. You see these commonly with the older riders in horse shows or some just use them to practice.

Breeches are a thick less stretchy material seen in hunters and jumpers and are worn under tall boots. Breeches are usually for show.

Jodphurs are seen in the show ring on little kids and in saddle seat riding. Jodphurs (for little kids showing hunters) have a cuff at the bottom of the pants and two buttons for an elastic strap to attach one side to the other, going under the boot. (usually worn with only paddock boots.)

In saddle seat, Jods are either black or blue and have a flared lower leg with an elastic piece at the bottom that goes under your boot to keep the pants from riding up.

Both jods and breeches are primarily seen in the show ring. Schooling breeches, or tights are made for every day riding and come in various styles and colors and are made of a very stretchy, breathable elastic.

Personally, I see little difference. Except that, as mentioned above, jodhpurs are meant to be worn with graters and paddock boots, and breeches with tall boots. I used to ride in regular breeches with my paddock boots and half chaps, and it didn't make a difference to me. Now I wear special practice pants with my paddock boots and half chaps for everyday riding and wear my breeches with my field boots to shows.

Jodphurs have an elastic band on the bottom of each leg, that fit over a paddock boot. You wear garter straps right below the knee to keep the jods in place.

Breeches are worn with tall boots, and have no elastic band. they just cut off where your ankles are. Jodphurs are usually worn by beginner riders, mostly children 10 and under.

All of the preceding answers are fairly right, though in addition where i come from, men wear breeches and not jodphurs. As for with paddock boots true breeches are too short as they are meant to come to mid calf and to be worn with polo type boots or top boots call them what you will.

As far as I know, jodphurs are made of a lighter material, and have extra padding around the knee area only. Breeches are made of a heavier (more corded material) and the extra padding starts around the 'seat' of the pants and continues to below the knee. As far as I know this is the only difference, it doesn't matter what you wear as long as you and your horse are comfortable. If people judge you and your horse on what you wear, then they are not worth knowing. There are 2 important things when you are riding,

1/ The comfort of your horse

    2/ Your comfort

Did you notice that fashion does not and will never rate a mention as long as you follow the basic rules of riding. If you want to follow fashion and be uncomfortable, then please don't force your horse to do the same.

I htink they look almost the same as well but the jods are usually fuller in the hip and made to be worn with paddock boots and leg straps and breeches are made to be worn with long boots

Jodhpurs end on the ankle with a cuff, and infrequently they have an elastic stirrup to save them from driving up. it in many circumstances is going around the boot, yet can pass around the foot if our wearing lengthy boots. Breeches end at about mid-calf and performance velcro that secures the end round your leg and may end them driving up. Jodhpurs are not in basic terms for little ones. In competition adults are predicted to positioned on lengthy boots or jodhpur (short) boots and leather garters, yet those would properly be worn over jodhpurs and do not seem any distinct to breeches when they are lined. Breeches are designed to be worn less than lengthy boots/garters/chaps and are better comfortable. Jodphurs can from time to time wrinkle and rub, pretty less than boots. I desire breeches as I continually vacation in 1/2 chaps, yet I do actually have some jods. Jods are in many circumstances less expensive. Jods seem better 'ordinary' in case you leave the backyard for lunch and so on, pretty in case you aren't any more wearing chaps. convenience-sensible socks are considered necessary. Get some solid pairs of lengthy socks; knee or mid-calf length. positioned on them over breeches and fewer than jods. they could help save the breeches comfortable and end the jods rubbing.
