Did anyone else get a violation for answering the creep...?

who wants to kick babies off their mother's breast so he can "start slurping her milk?" I answered that he needed to post an ad in Craig's List. Others derided him for his lack of maturity. He wrote that he was reporting us all, and I got a violation notice. Here was what I wrote in response:

Are you (Yahoo) kidding me? This total creep asks a "question" to the effect of: "Have you ever seen a woman breastfeeding, kicked the baby aside and started slurping her milk?" and I am being reprimanded for my response of disgust at him????? Should I just have written "NO" as an answer? Really? Are you kidding?????? Yahoo! needs to get some perspective. There are some real creeps on this site. We answerers step up where you administrators drop the ball. The fact that he reported four of us should tell you something. Are you paying attention?

Was any action taken toward the asker?

Reactions?

Update:

Sadly, yes, Allie: It's true!

Update 2:

Thanks, J.C. Good advice. I did get "suckered in" (pun intended?)

Update 3:

I really didn't expect any answers and thought I was verging on a rant, but I really appreciate the show of support.

You are correct, Kookooka: I was in violation for not answering his question. Yahoo ! has some splainin' to do?

You should not answer questions like that ,because you add fuel to the fire , just report and move on.

This pretty much proves what I've known all along...that Yahoo Answers never verifies reports, and all it takes is 1 idiot to click the "Report" link for it to be counted as a violation.

YA says that if you make false reports, you will lose credibility. But obviously, that's not true. Supposedly, you can "appeal" a violation, but I've tried it and of course I just got a generic response and my answer was still deleted. In fact, I don't know anyone who has sucessfully appealed a violation. I don't think YA even bothers. I just think the whole thing is automatic. Someone just clicks the "Report" link, and then you get a violation and your answer is deleted. If you try to appeal, they'll still just send a generic response.

I've already had 2 or 3 violations, even though I was a Top Contributor and had a 36% Best Answer rating. It's pretty much a mathematical certainty...if you hang around YA long enough, you're going to get "reported" and get a violation. Because all it takes is 1 idiot to click the "Report" link, and there is no real accountability.

I know this sounds crazy, but I really wish someone would legally FORCE Yahoo Answers to make the system more reliable. This sounds like false advertisement to me. Of course, it's a free service so technically we aren't customers. Although, since Yahoo uses advertisement, then you can say that we ARE customers. I don't know. But yeah, don't give too much credit to the whole reporting thing. It's meaningless. YA will delete ANY answer that gets reported. It just takes one moron to click the report button.

I wonder if it's the same way with questions? YA is too lazy to verify reports, so maybe if you flag a question, they won't bother to check it and will just delete the question and give the asker a violation? hmmm

No, I did not see the question, so I did not get a violation for answering it. If I had not just answered your question, I would have gotten a violation myself. It seems that if you vent here instead of answering the question, you get a violation for not ANSWERING the question. Yahoo runs this area just like they run the rest of their company, badly. There is no rhyme or reason, no fairness or unfairness, Yahoo does not care. It's take it or leave it. If you want to stick around, be prepared to deal with Yahoo's customer service problems. Yahoo does not have a clue. Good Luck!

Source(s): I have been a Yahoo customer for many years. I simply have to go through my files of Yahoo horror stories to come up with examples like yours and like this.

No. I never answer questions like that. That's a prime example of a "baiting troll". They post stupid/inflammatory things just to get people angry. Then they go back and report anyone who may have even slightly violated the rules. Don't answer this junk, just report it.

I used to answer them stupid trolls before but now I just report them and move on. I don't want them to be able to report me coz I ended up doing what they want us to do, i.e. insult them to offer them the fun they need and then have them report us for not answering their question or insulting another member. It makes my blood boil seeing such crappy persons posting on here but don't give in to them, they just want the attention.

And Yahoo could care less about the content of the reported answer/question, he reported your answers and on there it doesn't show his question.

I got a violation for asking: Isn't strange how we all feel a little Bit weird sometimes?

It's amazing how yahoo has sooo many discrepancies. They don't know the difference between a philosophical question and blatant horrific vulgar obscenities.

  • 1 decade ago

Quite simply, he's a troll. He deliberately posts questions (ones that are violations in themselves) just to get angry and rude comments from a variety of answer'ers, and then reports them. There's an old saying on the Internet. "DON'T FEED THE TROLLS"

Report and move on. Don't get suckered in.

(Couldn't use ******... afraid the "report mavens" might be getting a bit overzealous nowadays.)

It relies upon on the character of the violation and the willingness of the violator to artwork with the Yahoo!solutions group to artwork by way of the area. i think of that solutions has grown greater right this moment than predicted and the solutions group is inundated with requests for fixes, advancements, new helpful properties, abuse and comments of abuse, stick to united statesto violations, etc. in short, they are swamped. The group has already indicated the forms of abuse that are grounds for instant suspension. yet you're able to desire to attain that they might desire to sift by way of dozens, 1000's, possibly even 1000's of thoughts of abuse on a on a regular basis foundation. It ought to be difficult to stay to tell the story unbelievable of the relatively severe offenders plus all the informal offenders. we've been discussing this situation on the communicate board for a while and we are hoping to have the flexibility to make contributions to a answer which will keep solutions a great place to circulate to.
