Question on Evolution and Racism, for Evolutionists?

In simple terms, evolution necessitates that the variations of the human species (which we incorrectly call race) will eventually lead to a change of species altogether. Darwin himself stated in "The Descent of Man" that this had already occurred between "whites" and "blacks" (yahoo deletes the words he used), with "caucasian" emerging as the superior race.

So then, this begs the question:

Who do you believe is evolutionary superior race? If you do not believe there is one, do you believe that evolution will naturally produce a superior race of humans?

"At some future period, not very distant as measured by centuries, the civilised races of man will almost certainly exterminate and replace throughout the world the savage races. At the same time the anthropomorphous apes, as Professor Schaaffhausen has remarked, will no doubt be exterminated. The break will then be rendered wider, for it will intervene between man in a more civilised state, as we may hope, than the Caucasian, and some ape as low as a baboon, instead of as at present between the ***** or Australian and the gorilla." Darwin, Charles. 1871. The Descent of Man, and selection in relation to sex. London: John Murray. Volume. 1. 1st edition. P 201

Gazoo - did you note I was quoting Darwin, not a Christian writer? I could have added Nietzche too......

I think it is fair to say that every surviving species is superior to the ones that became extinct. That's about it.

You cannot say, for instance, that humans are better than horses. If you try carrying a load on your back or running a race you'd soon see who's superior. On the other hand we are superior in intelligence. Similarly, the Masai tribe in Africa is superior in tallness, while the Native Americans are said to be superior in hairless chests. What is your criterion?

Darwin may have discovered evolution but he didn't know everything about it that we do today. Many things were still in the process of being discovered, and during his own life he refined his theories further. He was also a product of his times, when just about everyone was racist.

In terms of evolution, superior can only mean the 'race' which out breeds and out survives another. This may have nothing to do with what racists typically consider to be superior traits. Early evolutionists with racist bents usually confused the attributes of the wealthy with superior evolutionary traits. In other words, those who wore nicer clothes, lived in nicer houses and had larger guns were superior (civilized). These things really don't have anything to do with evolution. You could argue that the wealthier are healthier and thus have an advantage, but they breed less as well. And again, this has more to with economics then biology.

So, if there is an evolutionary superior race, it is the one breeding the most successfully. Will evolution produce a superior human race? No, it will just follow the flow of birthing and genetic change to produce something that survives. Superior is relative.

"Who do you believe is evolutionary superior race?"

I don't. There has been enough separation of groups of peoples that has allowed for variation between them relating to their environment. That's it. There is no superior race, although one may be considered better suited than another to his own environment.

"do you believe that evolution will naturally produce a superior race of humans?"

No, there is far too much interbreeding among 'races' now for advances to occur in one group alone. Any direction that evolution takes now will effect humanity as a whole, or groups that isolate themselves entirely from the majority. It cannot happen any other way.

Had we not invented modes of transportation to enable long distance travel and travel over sea we may see differing species of human over time but this is not the case and it is impossible for it to happen now.

It is actually more likely that humanity will homogenize over the next few thousand years.

Actually, evolution is about keeping each species perfectly adapted to its own changing environment. It says nothing about which species is superior or inferior to another. Since all humanity is descended from the same group of mutant African apes, any differences between the races occurred long after we diverged from our hairy cousins. Again, there is simply no way evolution can be used to justify slavery because Natural Selection depends on how well a species survives and reproduces within its particular environment. Evolution has nothing to do with the social consequences of competing one variant of a species against another. ...and history records that Darwin himself was seriously opposed to slavery.

Darwin failed to understand cultural evolution. He did not realize that other races would lose their ancient ways and traditions and become assimilated into the technological world, a process we are observing. In an era when interracial marriage was not practiced in general, this was not an outrageous conclusion.

We are seeing the other prediction come true as all the great apes are endangered by human destruction of their habitats.

Evolution does not determine one species to be "superior" over any other. That is a value imposed by purely subjective opinion. If evolution were to "eventually lead to a change of species altogether," which I strongly dispute, there would not be a species that is inherently "superior" to another species.

Even if Darwin was a racist, which may be likely given the society he lived in, it does not mean that the scientific theory of evolution implies racism.

What Darwin says is VERY far from the reality of evolution as we know it today. We know it today through severe research and even observation - if anything Darwin did not observe it. We have. So it is quite incorrect of you to say 'Even Darwin himself' - for that statement holds no important weight at all.

I do not believe there is a superior race. We are all relatively superior (relative to say... something extint through failure). That is why we have survived and why we are all (in general) as intelligent as we are. Our evolutionary lines works for ALL of us, in similar ways. Only a few things different.

If there were to be a superior 'race' ever (I assume you mean one race, meaning one 'colour' or type of 'facial features' etc) then it would be a mixture of us all. We need the diversity as a species, and there is no weaker 'sub-race' of the human race.

In short, we all win. Hurrah!

Based on genes and fossils Europeans stepped out of Africa only 60,000 years ago about 100,000 years after modern man appeared.

During the transit from sunshine to grey skies something provoked a fairly rapid change in skin colour. In Africa, skin damage caused by ultraviolet may have kept people black; but for the northern explorers vitamins were more important. Those with light skins were able to make vitamin D when exposed to sunshine and hence less liable to the soft-bone disease, rickets.

That pattern suggests that each mutation only happened once and was so useful that it dragged along its near neighbours on the same chromosome as it spread. There has not yet been time for natural DNA shuffling as generations succeed each other to break up the long strings of material on either side of each new change.

Estimates of dates, based on what we know about the speed of such genetic rearrangement and the rate of mutation in the surrounding bits of DNA, suggest that the white European variants arrived surprisingly recently. The main shift in hue was probably not much more than 10,000 to 20,000 years ago.

But the best evidence of modern evolution is for the atheists!!

Science has shown atheists have a higher intelligence than people with a strong religious faith. The difference is 5.8 points according to findings in developmental psychology!!!

More members of the "intellectual elite" considered themselves atheists than the national average.

Only 7 percent of members of the American National Academy of Sciences believed in God. Whilst only 3.3 percent believed in God in the UK’s Royal Society.

Several Gallup poll studies of the general population have shown that those with higher IQ’s tend not to believe in God."

Evolution in action with Christians getting left behind like the monkeys and apes before them!!!

There is no superior human race, in my opinion there is no such thing as race, we are all humans we just happen to have a couple of different skin colours, just like we have different Hair colours.

Race is just a socially constructed term that we use for convenienceand oppression.

Humans are never superior, as a complicated organism they live in a delicate balance and will become extinct. Microbes are the superior species, which will be here long after we're gone.
