Does it make you a bad driver if you accidentaly drive with the Emergency break on?

I was at a fair yesterday and there wasn't many parking places. A guy allowed me to park my car near his store and because I was gonna have to walk a mile away, I put on the emergancy break just for extra precaution (really wasnt any point to it, but hell, I was scared to death something would happen to it.)

I get back that evening and head towards home, and the car is SHAKING. It was insane. I put on my emergency flashers and pull over. One person finally stops, says he doesnt know a thing about cars and I say thanks. I pull over to a store to ask for help, and this guy looks at my tires and say they look fine.

I was told maybe I had a knot on one, and it would be fine if I went slow. I start to leave, and it starts really Shaking bad inside the car. So I pull over again, knowing theres no way a little knot on a tire could cause all of that.

I call my buddy and he says I probablly have a broken tire belt, and to just go slow.

I take off again, going slow as I could, and in no time, it feels like the entire car is about to fall apart, I pull up to a house where I see people.

I'm about to ask for help, their all looking at me. I'm park straight uphill so i go to turn on my emergency break, and wouldnt you know it, its already on.

I take it off and just drive away, my buddy is like "why didnt you ask for help man. You left cause there was a girl there didn't ya? man dude go back" I explained that we just had the emergency break on, and we laughed historically, an hour down the drain, and a very scary experience.

93 lexus by the way.

anyways, does this make me a HORRIBLE driver? (19 just had my lisence and car for about 4 months) or does this kinda thing happen to a lot of people?

Also, could I have messed up anything in my car driving with it on?

First of all, it sounds like your parking brake is out of adjustment. If you had it fully applied, you should'nt have been able to drive it at all. Secondly, there should be a red indicator light on your dash that illuminates BRAKE when you apply your parking brake. As for as i'm concerned your not a bad driver..you just suffer from CRS (can't remember ****)

Of course it makes you a bad driver - why did you not check if the brake was on as part of your start up procedure? You should check the park brake lever position with your hand every time before you touch the shifter to drive away. I am in the habit of always leaving the park brake on when the car is not in gear. At least I know my car will never roll away, whether I am in it or not.

Also, you could have completely ruined your rear brake discs and pads. The heat build up would have been intense, and the shaking was probaly caused by your rotors warping out of shape. In fact, there could have been enough heat bult up to overheat the rear wheel hubs and ruin the grease in your rear wheel bearings. You should get your rear hubs stripped, checked and repacked as a matter of course.

Depends on how far you drove...if it's just a couple of miles I wouldn't worry about. If was about 50-100 miles then you might want to have your rear brakes examined. I believe that car should have disc brakes in the rear. You could have warped the rotors and excessive brake pad wear...Other than that I wouldn't worry about it.

well did that fix the shaking or not.. and really everyone who uses a parking brake will leave it on sometime maybe you might need to now have rear brakes check casue you sure wore out some pad driving with it on

doesn't make you a bad driver. just shows that you need to be more in tune with the normal sounds and feel of your car<

it don,t make you a bad driver, you just forgot. everyone forgets once in awhile. about the only thing it can cause is it will burn up the shoes or pads and maybe warp the rotors or drums.

If it does, there are a lot of bad drivers out there. I have done it as well as a lot of people out there have to.
