High Speed Internet Loads Pages Incredibly Slowly?

I have a high speed broadband connection, and can not figure out what the problem is with my low speed! I've been having this problem for about a week. The bizarre thing is, speed tests show my connection to be in the appropriate range, and though pages literally take minutes to open, once they have done so, I can navigate within the site quickly. Additionally, it takes me ages to search for videos on sites such as YouTube, but as soon as I click the link to the video, it opens immediately and loads quickly and fully. What in the world is this? Could it be a problem with my computer? See below for details of my speed test:

Additionally, I have a Mac, so I really doubt it is a virus.

Whenever I have a problem with anything taking a long time on my computer, the first thing I do is clean everything up. Delete unused and outdated documents and personal files. Remove programs that you are not using and then make sure the program files get tossed out too. Delete temporary folder contents as well as temporary internet files, browsing history, cookies - clear your cache, etc.

Then when your done with that, perform a disc clean up on each of your drives. Make sure that your free memory is evenly distributed between them, and that you have free memory available on each. If you need to, relocate things you can archive to another storage device (or online file storage).

Then, and this is key - perform disc defragmentation on each of your drives.Sometimes I have to defrag more than once.

This may not solve all of your problems, but this simple basic maintenance, though tedious, is necessary, and I am never surprised with the increased level of performance I see. I am usually surprised with how much junk accumulates and attaches itself to so many different locations in "my computer."

I notice the speed with which I can negotiate a website often depends on the time of day, and the other traffic I am competing against. If the site your on is having a hard time keeping up with its users at the heaviest periods, you will be limited my how fast they can serve information regardless or your machines performance. Notice if this too might be an issue slowing you down, by comparing performance

at different times of the day.

If none of these things is your problem, then you really have a real problem. Good luck!
