40 wks. 1cm and thick, 3rd child, 1st induction (w/ cervadil and pitocin) what can I expect?
This is my 3rd child, had an u/s and they say she's 7lbs. 12oz. (my last was 9lbs. 10 oz.) so doc wants to induce on my due date which is Tuesday. I'm 1cm and thick. He's sending me Monday night for cervadil and will start pitocin Tuesday. I'm nervous, not sure what to expect and wondering if it might go faster b/c it's my 3rd? I'm also confused as to why he's worried about her size b/c I did have a 9lb. 10oz. baby naturally no problem. I will NOT get an epidural so I'm afraid the pain will be worse with pitocin. Any stories or advice?? Thanks!

I was induced with my fourth baby and didn't find the contractions any more painful then my prior 3 deliveries and my son arrived fairly quickly. I didn't have Cervidal though - just the inducing drug in the IV.
I was at a friend's delivery 2 years ago and she had the Cervidal suppository inserted the night before she was supposed to be started on the Pitocin the next morning She never did have to get the Pitocin because the Cervidal got things started on it's own. Labour started a couple of hours after the Cerivdal was inserted. I think the total time for labour was 13 hours give or take which is pretty good for a first baby.
Good luck on Tuesday!!

Induction is more painful. I was given pitocin during my labor and it made things much worse.
I can tell you that there is no way your doctor can know the baby is 7lbs 12 oz. An ultrasound can be off by as much as 1 lb give or take (and usually is). I even had a friend that was induced because they said the baby was 9 lbs and when he was born he was 6lb 7 oz.
The problems with being post term (over 40 weeks) do not start until you are 41-42 weeks along, so that should not be a huge concern yet.
If you are ready to go and want to be induced, then go for it. If this is something that you really do not want to do then tell your doctor no, that you want to wait another week.
Also, I am at 40 weeks and my doctor would not induce because I am a loose 1cm and thick. He said that with my cervix being thick it can make things harder during an induction, so he is making me wait until my appointment on Monday to see if things have moved along a little more.
Cervadil is put in your cervix and there is a string attached. It softens the cervix so that it dilates which starts contractions. When the contractions get to where they want them, the cervadil is removed.
Usually you would be given cervadil first and then pitocin if contractions are not regular. I have never heard of someone getting them both at the same time right off.
Good luck.

Good luck to you! I've done it both ways, naturally, and with an epidural, and especially with the pitocin (I was induced with my 1st), the contractions were very, very strong. My advice for you would be to bring a picture or something to focus on while you're breathing if you're not getting an epidural. Maybe bring some music to listen to. Also, if you do end up asking for an epidural, don't feel like a failure! I found that I was much more able to enjoy my 2nd son's birth because I was more relaxed due to the epidural. With my 1st, induced and no pain meds since the epidural wore off WAY too early, I don't even remember the birth because I was in so much pain. Every birth is different and every woman is too. Your experience may not be anything like mine was. I wish you a quick and easy labor!

I had pitocin with my first daughter. My body was not ready. I was not dialated, but they had concerns. I did not get cervadil and I did not get an epidural. Anyway, I had 44 hours of hard labor w/ the contraction every minute from Monday night until Wed at noon. I threw up non stop. They manually stretched my cervix and I have never felt pain like that in my life! Don't let them do that. Since this is your 3rd it should go much quicker.

Well with my first son I had pitocin and I only had that because I wasn't dialating real fast. My water broke with him and I sat at 2 cm for like 4 hours. Then they gave me the pitocin and I gradually started dialating. I had demerol to lessen the pain. But pitocin does make ur contractions hurt a lot more. It feels like somebody squeezes ur uterus until they can't squeeze anymore then let go.
With my daughter, my labor started on its own. I wasn't dialated before then and I stayed at home when my contractions started. I waited until the possible last minute before I went to the hospital. When I got to the hospital I was 5-6 cm. My water didnt break so they broke it and my contractions took off from there. I am hoping that with my 3rd baby that it goes faster. Good Luck!!!!!!!

Pitocin will speed up your labor and make your contractions go to a normal pattern instead of sporadic. The doctors usually do not like for you to go pass 40 weeks because your placinta will thin out and the baby gets less oxygen and nutrients. Cervidil (if I am not mistaken) will be put inside of you to make your uterus to start opening. Good luck.

I in hindsight had a competent journey. i became into triggered because of the fact i'm an older mum and that they did no longer % me to bypass over. So at 40 weeks I arrived on a monday at 7am and became into in the present day given a gel. I stayed on the labour ward for 40 8 hours and have been given 3 extra gels and became into given a 'sweep' - this could be somewhat painful - have a competent slug of gas and air, no longer something happend . i became into discharged and informed to return returned on the Friday. i became into given yet another 2 gels, and then they broke my waters (this became into on a scale of a million-10 - approximately 5 - painful!! and that i did yell somewhat). nonetheless no labour. next they gave me the drip which they pronounced could velocity issues up and that they envisioned me to in the present day journey severe discomfort so at that element I asked for pethadine. I had an surprising midwife who fairly rightly pronounced pronounced why have any discomfort and if i became into already arranged to bypass to epidural why wait so I did. It became right into a rapid and uncomplicated journey without discomfort. nonetheless no labour although the video reveal confirmed i became into having contractions yet i could no longer experience a component and the effect became into i became into waiting to get an entire nights relax. yet with the aid of Saturday am my labour had no longer stepped forward and that i became into given a c/section. As my epidural became into already in place it became into throughout very in the present day. In all it took 5 days - my toddler became into in no rush to return out! I have been given a attractive wholesome boy out of it. My suggestion is this. bypass with the circulate, dont have any business enterprise plans, something can take place in labour. Dont beat your self up approximately getting discomfort alleviation - toddler start could be a competent journey. Dont combat c/section - there may be a actual rationalization for toddler no longer coming - ie mendacity incorrect. I have not any concept why labour did no longer respond to inducton yet c/section is a doddle, i became into up and strolling approximately after an afternoon (i became into on a drip til then). interior of a week (although you're informed to take it uncomplicated for 6 weeks) i became into returned to typical. The midwives, maximum of them, are mind-blowing, hear to them and additionally you will no longer bypass a techniques incorrect.
