How to quit mac application when last window closes?

I'm a windows user switching over to mac. The only thing that really drives me crazy about the mac so far is the fact that when you close the last open window of an application, the application itself does not close until you r-click it and click close, cmd-Q, force quit, etc. There must be a setting or line of code that will make the application close when its last window closes, like it traditionally does with windows. Does anyone know how to make this work? Thanks.

click and hold your mouse button on the app's icon. Then there will be an option called Close or Quit or something like that. My only Mac died a year ago, so I don't remember exactly what its called.

    try cmd-Q instead.

Macs are extra effective to homestead windows machines. that's the reason. You get all of it. You get Mac OS which fits. you could deploy Fusion and characteristic an XP partition so so you might use each and every of the homestead windows utility. Mac OS has a linux kernal so which you're able to have each and every of the potential of linux. No reason to apply a strictly homestead windows device.

Tim C is right, and you can also go (application) quit, in the menu bar. Or go command tab then command Q.
