What does it mean when you wear a bandana/hankerchief out of your back pocket?

Back in the olden days, before gay people were out and wanted to give signals to each other that not only they were gay but also what they were into would use this color coded system. The problem with it that there was not a universal understanding of what it meant if the hanky was worn on the right or the left, as well as other problems, and it could get one into a bit of an embarassing situation at times.

The hanky-code is not nearly as widely used nowadays, as it was in the 1970's and 80's.

How ever it is still fairly common among members of the SM subculture.

If you wear a hanky around the neck, is usually means that you can be both active and passive.

So apparently putting a black bandana in your pocket means you're interested in S&M. Although, unless you're in a leather bar, I don't think people will make that connection. They'll probably just think you have a handkerchief in your pocket.

It's usually perceived as gang related. For example lil wayne wears a red one out of his back pocket, showing loyalty to the bloods. It doesn't necessarily have to represent gangs i guess haha. Ryan Sheckler wears a red one in his back pocket sometimes, but i don't think it's gang related?
