Or gain faith?

When i was 9, my mother passed away and for a long time, I was angry with God. I was 16 when my faith was restored at a christian camp. Right now, my faith isn't as strong as it could be, however, it is not because i've lost my faith, but it's because i've been lazy in it. I've been working on it little by little, but it can be tough.

My cousin and uncle died within a few months of each other in 2001 (cousin worked in the World Trade Center and died on 9/11, uncle died of something completely unrelated). I was already struggling with my faith to begin with, and that was kind of the last straw. It seemed terribly cruel for any God to put my poor grandparents -- two of the most devout people I know -- through the death of their oldest grandchild and youngest son. The circumstances and timing of their deaths just made the whole situation seem that much worse to me. Seeing how they suffered convinced me that either there was no God, or that if there was a God the Christian God wasn't really one I wanted anything to do with. So I stopped being Catholic.
However, I don't think those events would have made any difference if I hadn't already been questioning my faith and if I hadn't already been having some pretty serious disagreements with Catholic doctrine on a variety of topics.

Loss made me lose faith. The Bible made me gain faith back. Now, having a relationship with God and experiencing some of the things he has to offer has been and will continue to increase my faith.

I can't say that it has, I "lost the faith" at about seven so I think it's safe to say that I never had it to begin with. I can very clearly recall being seven years old and thinking about how absurd is was to believe in a big guy in the sky watching and controlling. I remember thinking even then that religion was more of a social convention then anything else. My language, admittedly, wasn't as articulate then but the sentiment was still there.

I lose faith in humans whenever I see the words "The bible is proof!" or "Goddidit!" without any other explanation.
But I gain faith in myself that I will explain things to them and make the world better.
I also believe in God, but his existence has never been truly challenged by anything I've seen or heard.

I have had many events that have strengthened my faith but none that have caused me to doubt my faith.
I am not talking about what happens in church or when I read the Bible, just events that I can only explain by saying there is a God who loves me.

Ricky hit the nail on the head. After being force fed the bible for 12 years, I finally decided to do some real research on it and other religions. What I found turned me atheist.

The history of the bible cause me to question the material in the bible more.
The material in the bible vs. other historial works is disturbing.
I still would like to believe in a higher or supreme being but not following the bible.
I see the bible kinda like moral fables now.
