You must be beyond frustrated about this! I know I would be. The good news is you have several different options.

First, you could get caller ID. It doesn't cost much and it's a great feature to have. You can tell exactly whose calling and can decide if you want to answer or not. If a number is blocked, then you can either answer or not. This might help you find out who this silent caller is, as long as their number isn't blocked. There is also a feature you can have added to your service that will not allow any blocked numbers to call you. If someone attempts to call you that has a blocked number an automated message will tell them you do not accepted blocked numbers and gives them an option to punch in their phone number in order to be connected. If they give their number then it will come up on the caller ID.

Another option is to have you number changed. Yes, this is a pain because you have to then tell everyone including companies of your new number but it will stop the silent calls. If you do get a new number tell them you want the number UNPUBLISHED and BLOCKED! That way no one can find you in the yellow page or other listings and your number will be private. This is what I have.

If you are determined not to change your number you can contact your service provider right after the silent calls happen and say that you receive these calls several times a week, and see what they can do. I also like the loud whistle idea or a fog horn. If you answer and the person refuses to respond, then blow the horn/whistle. If it's an actual person calling, it might stop them from harassing you.

It's possible that these calls are some type of telemarketer though. Most telemarketers these days have a computer that dials the different numbers off a list for the people. Some of the computers are set to dial a new number before the person is actually ready to take another phone call. So, the computer calls your house and you answer but the telemarketer isn't connected yet on their end. If the telemarketer is completely not ready they will cancel the call which leaves you with a silent call. This may or may not be what's happening to you.

I recommend you either get caller ID (I can't live without it) or have your number changed (call your service provider and say you want a new private and unpublished number - it will only take a few moments). I hope this helps.

    Good luck.

You could get caller ID and have phone calls blocked that are unknown or unlisted.

The phone company has a feature with caller ID that if you are calling from an unlisted or unknown number you have to push a number to release your information for the call to go through!

    This should help!

Also, maybe the phone company can trace the calls!

When they call you and hang up you can actually call the operator and they will report that you have someone calling and hanging up. They have the number of the person but they will not give it to you but, they will call the person and tell them that they are aware of what they have been doing but, you have to call the operator as soon as they hang up, so the operator can track your last call.

Also please get caller ID and get the restriction block where no one can call you from a blocked number. Good Luck!

You can try *69 but if the number is blocked then call the operator.

Is it your home phone? My husband & I both have our own cells but we get TONS of calls on the home phone that piss me off. They're either asking for Darren or Sarah or Nick or David. If it's not that then it's an 877 number or they just hang up on us. I don't know how many people could have had this number before us but it bugs the crap out of me so I don't even answer it anymore LOL!

Someone loves hearing your voice.I used to get those until I started blowing a whistle in the phone when a private number would come up.

Go out and buy a whistle and the next time some dose not Speak when you answer the phone to them blow their head off with the loudest whistle you can make...

The next time it happens, I would hit *69 after the call is ended (when you hear a dial tone).. it costs about 75 cents, but often will give you the number that called you.. haha.. then, call them back and ask them to quit calling! :)
