Would it be better to have 2 seperate countries?
Sometimes I wonder, would it be better to have two seperate countries -- The Liberal States of America and The Conservative States of America? Liberalism and Conservatism are two fundamentally different value systems and ways of looking at the world. The Liberal States could have Obama as their president and the Conservative States could have McCain as their president. The Liberal States could have Pro-Choice laws, The Conservative States could have Pro-Life laws. The Conservative States could go to war in Iraq and The Liberal States could stay home. The Conservative States could have prayer in schools and the Ten Commandments displayed in public and the Liberal States could ban those things. So on and so forth.....
Wouldn't everyone be happier this way?
We wouldn't have to fight each other at all. That is the point, we wouldn't have to both with each other anymore. There are a lot of people on both sides of the aisle that would be happier that way, would they not?
Parker, I don't have a problem with some diversity, but we have gone past the point of diversity.
No one has answered my question. If you are a liberal, I want to know, would you be happier with two seperate countries and you can do things your own way and have Gore or Kerry as president and we could have Bush.
JJ Walker......I am suggesting that you would choose to live in the country that would make you happier. No one would force you to think a certain way, but you could choose for yourself which country would make you happy and you could live there.
D Ray......it would be great if we were united. If only that were true, what a truly great country this would be, but we are far from united. That is why I ask this question.
Susan....I have taken Moderates into account. I know people of all 3 political groups. I have found that most Moderates lean in one direction, either to the left or to the right. Moderates would decide which direction appeals to them more, and they can go to whichever country would make them happier.

If there could be a peaceful separation, I think it would work out better in a lot of ways. We could still be trading partners and allies in a lot of ways. The blue states could stop sending their revenues to red states, too. I'd love to see the reds' faces when half of the women relocate to the coasts (where most blue states are; I guess there's something about sea breezes and oxygen.)

No one is totally liberal or totally conservative. They have different opinions on issues. Some liberal ,some conservative. Some people are a liberal Republicans or a conservative Democrats, where would they live? Where would the moderates live?
Add: Liberal, conservative and moderate are not political groups.. they are ideologies found within all political parties. Republican, Democrat, Independent etc. And no, people would not be happier that way. United we stand, divided we fall.
Add: Just because I am pro-choice I don't want to live with the tree huggers without my gun. Nor do I want to live with the bible thumpers because I believe in a balanced budget. We just have to all stay together.

I have a much more apropos idea. Set afloat, just inside U.S. waters, a thimble-sized vessel and place all those who still pander to this undefinable "conservative/liberal", "right-wing/left-wing", "deminican/republicrat" stupidity into its hull.
The rest of America will band together under the principles of Jefferson, Madison, Washington et al, and will rebuild this nation in the inextinguishable light of a Legacy none of us deserves yet which most recognize as nothing short of miraculous.
Far too valuable to subject to the quixotic whim of partisan folly.

Two points: 1) If you think McCain is a conservative you're dreaming. 2) Everyone has their hand out for government money regardless of party affiliation.

i think we should have let the south secede instead of having a civil war - they are like a cancer, we would be far better off without them. If it was not for the northern states and west coast funding them, they would be a third world theocracy with bush as dictator and biblical law implemented.
on the down side, it would probably have been the last country to abolish slavery - right after saudi arabia

Why stop there?
Let's break it down into fiscal conservaties and social conservatives.
And pro-choice and pro-life.
And people with brown eyes, blue eyes, green eyes.
And left handers. And people with one arm.
Heck, let's just divide it down to 5 square yards for every man woman and child. Millions of seperate countries.
Sheesh.

The frightening thing is the left in america is considered right wing anywhere else..If right wing americans can't get on with the sanitized "left" wing it has - its kinda troubling.

Sounds like you are suggesting communism to me.
Basically you are saying if you live in this section then you must think like them also.
Move to Cuba or Libya if you want to have everyone thinking the same way.
